Excellent hotel that has been completely refurbished to a very high standard. Exceptional staff being very helpful & cheerful but not sure about their ''jeans'' uniform particularly in the restaurant.

Romantic 30th Wedding Anniversary - eventually

Bob, Buckinghamshire, stayed: September 2017

I phoned before arrival to confirm the hotel had somewhere I could charge my electric car, which they duly did. However, that wasn't the case. In the midst of an extensive refurbishment and development programme the hotel has missed the need to provide any form of charging facilities for hotel guests. The best they could do was move us from one room within the hotel to a room across the rear access road and in the furthest of two spacious car parks so that we could open the bathroom window and pass the extension lead through to a socket in the hallway!  The suite in the converted cottage was very nice but it did mean a difficult walk in high heels for my wife across stony ground late at night in the dark.  I now know there is only one room in the hotel for guests with electric vehicles (308) which will definitely have an effect on whether we (are able to) stay again.

Opinion of Lyon Arms

Christine, Warwickshire, stayed: August 2017

On arrival welcoming although a little disorganised. First opinions very good. Good to stay in an individual hotel rather than the run of the mill. Disappointed with our room particularly as it was supposed to be deluxe . a) small and only one easy chair. b) wardrobe poor contained safe, tea tray, ironing board and hair dryer leaving little space for clothes particularly dresses and trousers . Bed very comfortable. Heated towel rail on unable to switch off which seemed a waste of electricity.  Restaurant very good staff very attentive and pleasant. Menu a little limited

Relaxing weekend break

Robert F, Devon, stayed: August 2017

Despite major renovation works, the hotel maintained an air of calm and a relaxed atmosphere.

Staff at all levels from chambermaids to front of house managers were all friendly and welcoming and enthusiastic in their respective roles.

Rooms are traditionally and tastefully furnished with excellent bathrooms with powerful showers.

The restaurant, though busy with some larger groups was well staffed with efficient and polite young waiters who found time to have a friendly chat, particularly the Aussies!

It would be worth revisiting when the building works are complete and the dust has settled.
