A Relaxing and Beautiful place

RW, Kent, stayed: November 2018

The experience was wonderful; staff and atmosphere were calm and relaxing. The room and views were fantastic. The food was very good (Lounge meal) and the Spa facilities generally good.
The Spa Jacuzzi was out of order and the swimming pool was 'full' when we arrived, which was disappointing as we had to wait to go in. However; complimentary drinks and snacks went some way to improving this and staff were lovely.
Thank you.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Poor maintenance of room

Peter, Kent, stayed: October 2018

Everything about the Hotel looked good until we saw our room which was dimly lit and badly maintained. Bulbs missing from lights and tap tops falling into basin - certainly not what I would have expected from a 5* Hotel. Good lighting in the room is essential for a woman to apply makeup and get dressed for a romantic evening - we had extreemly dim lights throughout the room.. The Shower was in the bath and you needed to be agile to use this - a high step into! I had to help my wife in and out of the shower. The shower was not very effective and nowadays most people use shower against bath. The restaurant was very good and the service excellent. The setting of the Hotel was just what we wanted and the countryside lovely to walk.

Bit of a letdown

Anon, stayed: October 2018

The room was quite chilly on arrival. Staff had made no effort to turn on the heat. The hot water tap barely emitted a dribble of water. Lighting in the room was very dim, barely adequate for reading.  The front desk staff said that a 9pm restaurant booking couldn't be moved up because it was "fully booked." Upon arrival in the bar at 8pm, we were told there was no problem if we wanted to eat earlier. In fact, throughout the meal, the restaurant had a number of empty tables.  However, the bar and restaurant staff were excellent and attentive and the meal was quite good.

Dated room interiors carried by everything else being so good.

Terry, Norwich, stayed: October 2017

The furniture and finishes in the bedrooms were dated. However this was more than made up for with everything else. The bedrooms were huge; virtually a suite. The building was very attractive and in beautiful grounds. Silver service in the restaurant and excellent food. Good service and a very restfull stay.

Anniversary Break

Anon, stayed: October 2017

We booked through an offer in the newspaper. While we did not expect the best room we felt the 49 steps to get to ours could cause a few problems for some guests.

The food was very good but the restaurant was not even half full. Perhaps the exorbitant prices on the wine list and indeed the food itself put people off. We enjoyed the pianist.

Good breakfast - especially the scrambled eggs.

Restaurant Not Up To Scratch

Anon, stayed: September 2017

The restaurant left a bad after taste to our stay. On the first night of a two day stay, we needed to send the dessert back to the kitchen as it was 'off' - way past it's eat before date. No manager appeared and no explanation offered. The hotel made a reduction in the bill we noticed when we came to settle the bill, but again no member of the management was available.  We ate elsewhere on the second night.  Unfortunately though we had breakfast there both days which was poor getting on for dire.

Excellent

Michael, Buckinghamshire, stayed: August 2017

Excellent, unfortunately with the exception of the hot water supply to our room. Both the supply to the wash basin and the shower was a matter of having a quick shower before going out.  Water took ages to run even, disappointing!

Warm staff, beautiful building, dated facilities

AB, Greater London, stayed: May 2017

We enjoyed our stay, but probably wouldn't return, as although the surroundings were wonderful, and the staff very helpful, there were a few issues that they really need to get sorted. Firstly, all the rooms in our section of the hotel had no water pressure, and therefore no hot water. Something we feel that should be checked before using these rooms, as when we looked online, we saw others complaining of the same issue. Secondly, the restaurant and food is rather dated in its approach, stale bread, and slightly cold food. Finally, the spa, also a bit dated. Whilst all the facilities are there, and the staff and management are wonderful, the facilities are just not up to the price being charged.
