Beautiful Room
We were in room 1 and it was lovely. Spacious and comfortable, furniture a little dated and worn but can forgive that because of the cleanliness. Good size bathroom, shower was over the bath and unfortunately there were no grab rails but the shower itself was a good one. Thought it was a brilliant idea that if you didn t have your room made up they would leave a 5 voucher for the bar, we took advantage of the offer
Restaurant menu was limited but the food was good and they would let you choose from the bar menu if you wanted. Didn t like the idea of a 10% charge being added to the bill but not sure if we were charged it as we paid as we went along
Food and cleanliness
The room was good in that it and the bathroom were large if somewhat cold. The cleanliness was not very good - black mould on the windows which should have been cleaned off, thick dust on the radiator in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The Breakfast was absolutely abysmal some sort of strange juices supposed to be orange and apple - neither had seen either fruit and tasted disgusting dreadfully thin and sweet - undrinkable. one day no yoghurt of any type, one day no pastries. I only had a cooked breakfast ion one of the days and it was alright. The evening meal was very limited. It appeared to be being run on a shoe[] Not inclined to book again. The staff were pleasant and helpful when asked.
Great deal on a sparkling break
From the moment that we arrived the staff were friendly efficient and well presented.
The restaurant food was excellent and again delivered by great staff. Rooms are good but aged which is within keeping with the age of the building.
Pleasant stay at bank holiday weekend
The building was beautiful and the grounds well kept, far back off the road with a lake, quite secluded and small. The hotel staff were warm and welcoming and the main hotel area is well tended.
When we arrived there was a wedding on so couldn t sit out on the lawns at the back of the bar area etc ( or didn t feel we could as wouldn t want to intrude) so we walked for 20 mins to a nearby pub to enjoy some sunshine.
The classic room in the lakeside lodge was basic (not quite as the photos showed) and I feel it would benefit from some renovation (cobwebs, parts of curtain pole missing and no plugs next to the bed made it feel a little tired).
The bed was comfy and the room cosy. I didn t use the shower but the bathroom was a good size and clean.
The three course set menu had varied choices however I would say the food was average, table service was great and they have a decent wine selection.
Breakfast was good, again with great service from the staff and check out was easy.
Overall a pleasant stay.
Excellent
On arrival the staff was welcoming and helpful. The room was clean and the bed is so comfy. We had two small dogs and catered for them, plenty of beautiful walks for them. The grounds are lovely to walk round. Breakfast and evening meal was very nice.
