A story stay break

SR, Oxfordshire, stayed: September 2018

The Bishopstow hotel is situated very close to Longleat safari park which was the main purpose of our visit. We booked with offpeakluxury and enjoyed a very good deal. We were pleased with the room, the Whimbourne and all its superior facilities.
I had the best facial ever with Magda in the spa. Our cream tea was also very nice.

Country House Hotel with Spa

JC, Essex, stayed: September 2018

We chose BH as it was half way home from Devon and our friends had recommended BH from a past years stay. We arrived @ 3pm on a Sunday and joined the queue for check in, which was quick, but lacked a personal touch. We were taken to our superior room in the Coach House, which overlooked the spa entrance and the front of the hotel. The receptionist advised us to dial "0" for Any requests. The room was split level with a TV area downstairs, with access to a terrace/garden. The bedroom upstairs was huge. The only nit pick was that their was nowhere in the ultra modern bathroom to store toiletries if you were in the bath or soap by the hand basin. There was no info in the room or welcoming letter advising us of check out or breakfast times/location of breakfast, but a quick phone call to reception solved the mystery. No idea about other facilities as they were not made known to us .....only that we could use the spa.
Unfortunately in the evening one of the lounges was being used for a private party, which meant we could either have a pre dinner drink on the terrace or in the small, heavily furnished front lounge - both of which lacked any ambience. BH lacked a comfortable bar area, which was uninviting located in the corridor! We begged for our complementary glasses of champagne as no mention of this was made at check in and received a half bottle of champagne instead - a pleasant surprise.
The dinner menu was uninspiring, but pleasantly cooked. 3 out of 5 starters were "raw" which could pose problems for some guests (tartare, carpaccio and cured fish). The restaurant lighting was severe and unwelcoming and noise resounded around the room due to lack of soft furnishings. Breakfast was fine. Staff were very friendly throughout the hotel. Overall a pleasant but unmemorable stay.
