History of the hotel

Brandshatch Place Hotel & Spa dates back to 1806, when it was built by the Duke of Norfolk as a country home. He later gave the house to one of his gentlemen friends in the locality and Brandshatch Place remained a prestigious private residence until 1977.  The Georgian redbrick house offers elegant proportions nestling at the end of a long tree-lined drive surrounded by its own 12 acres of parkland and gardens.

Stories tell that in the Edwardian times the house was owned by a wealthy, middle-aged bachelor. An attractive member of the resident female staff, Mollie, who acted as a housekeeper, fell victim to the owner's advances. She later mysteriously vanished and an apparition of a young woman wearing a straight skirted gown with a neatly ironed apron, and carrying a basket of flowers, has been seen gliding through the reception hall, into the kitchen and continuing into the garden, where she vanishes. Why does the phantom vanish at a certain spot in the garden? Is it perhaps of some significance? And if it is not Mollie, who is she and what is the reason for her haunting?

Ok

Courtney-paige, stayed: May 2019

The over all experience was ok. Our prepaid cream tea wasn t on the restaurants list: Had to request it. No slippers in the room and hot tub had too much chemicals in. Stung me eyes. Food was ok but not a big variety. The meal I wanted had ran out by 19:15. Therefore I had to get a meal I wasn t keen on.

Anon, stayed: April 2019

The staff are all amazing. Very polite and willing to help. The room was below par for the money we paid I felt. The breakfast was lovely. Dinner was average. My main of chicken was great but the gourmet burger was not anything Special. Overall we had a relaxing night away.

Great stay at Brandshatch Place

Kevin, Essex, stayed: March 2019

In Kent to visit some National Trust properties, my wife and I based ourselves at the hotel and had a really good time. The hotel is very comfortable, the restaurant is very good but the stand-out feature of the stay was the service from the hotel personnel. They got the balance of friendly and professional absolutely right and made a good stay into a great stay.

We were welcomed by polite and happy reception staff and nothing was a problem. We used the spa earlier which was a nice touch to our stay. We found staff really helpful and nothing was a problem.
Scones were nice and fresh. 3 course meal in restaurant was tasty and good value. Breakfast was of a high standard and cooked to order. We were impressed by staffs attention and service.
Lovely spacious room with a great selection of coffees and tea.

We really enjoyed our stay and most notable element was the effort and service from staff. They were really teying to make our stay pleasant and enjoyable.

FANTASTIC

Anon, stayed: January 2019

What can I say! The stay at this hotel was fantastic, from the moment we walked in we were made to feel extremely welcome. The staff could not have done enough for us. The surrounding area of this hotel is lovely and made you feel so far away from home. We will be staying again!

Cameras in the spa, food from frozen but great shower pressure

Maral, London, stayed: December 2018

We thought we had found a really great spa & hotel deal for a small get-away for me and my partner. The location was lovely - the building looks great - from the outside. The receptionist was very friendly which we liked a lot.

We got to our "executive" room, which smelled like old carpets and had a dead squished spider on the wall. We had a different expectation from our room. But hey, there was still a spa to look forward to.

The entire hotel just smells really odd. We get to the spa, which is also hard to find within the premises. Purple lights, shallow ceilings, fake plants, still water, no ambient music.. oh and cameras. This would be a really nice pool in a prison.

We try out the steam room and the sauna. They were ok, but there were 2 or 3 cctv's in a very small area, making us feel watched at all times - that is not very relaxing. And in our experience, very uncommon for a spa anyways. We noticed the CCTVs only in the 'wellness' areas and not anywhere in the restaurant or rest of the hotel. A bit weird, but ok. There was still the 3-course meal to look forward to.

I'll keep it short. Excellent service - but definitely no gourmet food. One of us is a chef, so it was easy enough to see that the steak was not fresh, it was 100% frozen. The ice cream tasted like iceland's finest. The chips were the best part of the meal.

All in all: we won't be coming back and refrain from recommending this experience.
