History of the hotel

Sweeping up the driveway until the magnificence of Crathorne Hall is tantalisingly revealed, it's not hard to imagine Prince Charles and racing driver Graham Hill making the same journey back in 1974 – albeit in a much more glamorous car.

Designed for entertaining on a large scale, the Grade II Listed country house near Yarm, North Yorkshire, has long been a favourite with nobility and distinguished guests. It is just as popular today and, following a £4m investment after a devastating fire, it is looking better than ever.

Child Policy

Children are welcome. Some Classic rooms will accommodate 1 extra bed/cot. Some Executive and Deluxe rooms may accommodate up to 2 children.

Children under 12 years old stay free of charge on a B&B basis. Children 13 and over are charged at £15 per night B&B.  A children's menu is available in the restaurant for dinner, priced from £8.95.

Dogs Policy

The old dining room of Crathorne Hall creates a special atmosphere in which to enjoy an inspired dining experience, mark a special occasion, or to just treat yourself to an indulgent meal.

The Leven Restaurant's aim is to serve traditional favourites with a contemporary twist, as well as creating new dishes in the hope they will one day be considered familiar favourites. A quality hotel with quality staff

Mike Stathers, East Yorkshire, stayed: November 2018

The Crathorne is a high quality venue with high quality staff. The friendliness of the place is its best asset and I would recommend the hotel to anyone who needs a peaceful, quality few days away.

4 night stay deluxe room

GW, Leicestershire, stayed: October 2018

My wife and I enjoyed our recent stay. The hotel is to be congratulated on its high standards, particularly in its excellent staff who made our stay a complete pleasure with their genuine care and assistance. We will return again on our next visit to this area.

Customer Service and Rooms

Anon, stayed: October 2018

The room we were allocated was very nice, super-king bed, lovely bath/shower room, and a view over the side of the hotel, not particularly pleasant and made the room rather dismal and dark. Unfortunately the shower screen did not prevent water from spreading all over the bathroom floor, on being told about this the night staff cleaned up the mess and promised a new room, either that night, or the next morning. We chose the next morning and duly moved our belonging into a smaller room, with a king-size bed but the view was over the lawns, gardens and the Leven Valley, making the room much lighter and very pleasant. This did not spoil or mar our holiday in this beautiful hotel and we will definitely be visiting again.

A relaxing break at the Crathorne Hotel

JD, Nottinghamshire, stayed: September 2018

We booked a 3 night stay at this delightful secluded hotel where nothing was too much trouble in making us welcome. The only aspect which mars our review was the delay in dining for dinner on our first night and the unacceptable quality of the meal on the second which was in fairness rectified upon complaint and the third night offered the service and quality which is clearly the norm. Special thanks for making our stay memorable must go to the staff who all went the extra mile. We will return.

A lovely hotel with excellent service provided by all staff and a first class restaurant. The only criticism is that there is not air conditioning which in a humid and very hot period of weather would have been welcomed.
