History of the hotel

Sweeping up the driveway until the magnificence of Crathorne Hall is tantalisingly revealed, it's not hard to imagine Prince Charles and racing driver Graham Hill making the same journey back in 1974 – albeit in a much more glamorous car.

Designed for entertaining on a large scale, the Grade II Listed country house near Yarm, North Yorkshire, has long been a favourite with nobility and distinguished guests. It is just as popular today and, following a £4m investment after a devastating fire, it is looking better than ever.

Child Policy

Children are welcome. Some Classic rooms will accommodate 1 extra bed/cot. Some Executive and Deluxe rooms may accommodate up to 2 children.

Children under 12 years old stay free of charge on a B&B basis. Children 13 and over are charged at £15 per night B&B.  A children's menu is available in the restaurant for dinner, priced from £8.95.

A beautiful hotel set in stunning grounds.

KW, North Yorksshire, stayed: May 2018

Our daughter bought us this as an overnight treat and we were not disappointed. Upon arrival the receptionist saw that my husband walks with a stick so promptly with no request from us stated that the room booked was on the second floor but the lift only went to floor 1 so she moved our room for us. The grounds are stunning and we sat with a drink before our evening meal enjoying the beautiful setting. The food was presented lovely and although we couldn't managed all 3 courses we couldn't complain about a thing. We really enjoyed this stay and would recommend to anyone.

Very good place for a relaxing break. The hotel was undergoing some renovation and the dining room was closed. They were using the lounge as a dining room. Also the reception was temporarily. I was disappointed that off peak luxury did not let us know about this.

Not a 4 star restaurant

Susan Hill, Sancton, East Yorkshire, stayed: January 2018

Enjoyed the hotel, staff very helpful but really the restaurant was such a let down. Cannot believe the table d'hote was the same choice every night not only that the dishes were very average in fact pot roasted chicken is an every day meal at home for many people. Can understand why so many people chose to eat out have to say that would have been our choice had we have known. You cannot have a 4 star hotel with a very average 2 star restaurant. People are very aware and understand food these days and demand just that bit better choice. It let the hotel down and would affect our choice in the future. What was going to be a 3 night exciting break turned out to be disappointing.

Good food and helpful staff. Room we stayed in was very good indeed.
It would have been nice to have had a different menu on the second evening and a different chef's tester - otherwise a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Excellent one night stay

RS, North Yorkshire, stayed: October 2017

We stayed for one night to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday and had an excellent stay lovely food and helpful staff we got a better price than booking direct with the hotel.  The only negative we paid 37! for a bottle of wine in the resturant.  We would stay again enjoyed it overall.

Midweek @ Crathorne

Paul B, Tyne and Wear, stayed: September 2017

The stay, 2 nights in early September, at Crathorne Hall was very good. Excellent concierge welcome on arrival and the promised upgrade to an executive room, was forthcoming. Room had a balcony over looking the grounds. On a sunny day it would have been great, but that is 2017 for you.  All the rooms had been thoughtfully refurbished to a very high standard. Unfortunately, to my taste, the muted browns/cream/taupe in the bedroom and most of the public rooms, meant it was all rather dark, especially with the less than sunny weather.  Food was very good although two different beef dishes on two different night, lacked flavour(basic ingredient) but were well cooked. The rest of the menu(s) were very good.  The staff throughout were very helpful and managed to mix both the courteous and the friendly with just the right balance.  Grounds looked very good but weather, again, prevented a full exploration. Sunken garden v interesting.

Wonderful hotel

Sandra B, Staffordshire, stayed: August 2017

We stayed at Crathorne Hall to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary.  The hotel is beautiful and made our anniversary very special. The staff were lovely and very welcoming.  The restaurant was very nice and the food was excellent. Our room was huge and more than we expected.
