Romantic Weekend

Anon, stayed: June 2025

Location and the Castle are worth the experience, the staff were all pleasant and our experience in the restaurant was good.
The service outside the restaurant was really poor, no information supplied on check in or in the room. The room was supposed to be a 4 poster and was not. The room was nice but shabby, breakfast both mornings were a Faulty Towers experience.

Comments bout our stay.

Not the best accommodation we've been to, good name for the
spa, because that's what it was. SPARSE.
Not worth the money. Lovely grounds.

Beautiful castle

NM, Dorset, stayed: May 2025

Dalhousie Castle truly is lovely and is set in an idyllic location, but is also very conveniently close to Edinburgh. It is being renovated so there are some limitations, but these are clearly shown on the website, luckily we visited over a weekend so were not bothered by any noise or particular inconvenience other than parking. Upon arrival the car park was full, so we drove to the castle to park outside while we checked in, we were staying in the nearby lodge but didn t know where it was located. Upon parking we were immediately asked to move the car as there was a wedding taking place within the castle and apparently the party was just about to emerge. Perhaps a notice placed outside the castle would have avoided this? It was very annoying having driven for several hours to be asked to move before we had a chance to check in. After we had done so we were directed to the Lodge but still couldn t find it (there was a complete lack of signage) and had to stop to ask a member of staff. We had to navigate amongst the builders skips and debris to access the Lodge and drive over a very narrow bridge. Our room was on the 2nd floor, up two narrow and steep staircases with no lift. However the room was lovely and the stay was quiet and peaceful. We had our evening meal in the Dungeon Restaurant which was a very different experience! Initially we were inexplicably seated in a room on our own with no atmosphere, we asked to move to the next door room where there were several occupied tables but also around 3 unoccupied, this was fine we were told, but why not seat us there in the first place? Service was slightly chaotic, the lady running the restaurant seemed overworked while others didn t seem to know what they were supposed to be doing and we wonder if some of the usual staff had been diverted to look after the wedding party and left the restaurant understaffed. The food was delicious, however, as was breakfast in the Orangery the next morning. There was no problem with staffing at breakfast and it was excellent. We enjoyed our stay, there are some lovely walks around the grounds and we wish we had had more time to explore. We would be interested to go back once the renovations are finished.

Relaxing atmosphere

Pia, stayed: May 2025

We stayed here for 3 nights in a Castle Superior room. The room was big with an excellente view to the garden. The place was nice and quiet. The area was good for hiking or a run. The breakfast was good, with a nice view, but it took some time to get the food.

We had a 5 course experience dinner in The Dungeon Restaurant, and the food was fantastic!

The last night of our stay, there was a wedding at the castle. We were not informed, and the loud music from the wedding was extreme! The staff were terrible busy that day, because of this wedding. (We did not have any room service that day)

I recommend the hotel staff to inform the guests about such arrangements in advance!

Beautiful Experience

LS, CO 80021, stayed: May 2025

We didn't want our stay to end. We so enjoyed everything. We especially enjoyed the staff who were always so friendly and helpful. Specifically, Kim was so wonderful to us in the mornings at breakfast that we wish to name her. What a wonderful person! She really made our day each morning we had the pleasure of having her greet us.

60th Birthday stay

Anon, stayed: April 2025

I booked a stay for my husbands 60th. On first impressions I was a bit disappointed with the entry and into the Reception area as it just didn t seem befitting of the grandeur of the Castle. The staff were friendly though. The rooms were smaller than I expected, nowhere to put toiletries in the bathroom, but the bed was very comfortable. I had asked if something special could be arranged for his birthday, he did get a postcard on the bed, but was disappointed that nothing else was done to acknowledge it, a candle on his desert or something would have been nice! The meal in the dungeon was lovely however, although small portions, the desert filled us up, it was lovely. On our 2nd night we ate in the Orangery, had a nice meal, however being his birthday night, and we were the only 2 people in there (and no little gesture) made it a tad disappointing to say the least! Breakfasts were lovely on both days, the staff were lovely. The grounds around Dalhousie are lovely, and some nice walks to be had. The bar could do with a bit of improving, it s a bit small, under stocked and over priced. Otherwise a lovely old Castle. Oh beware, you will be charged gratuity at 10% on top of paying tax on your meal/drinks, I hadn t realised you could ask for it to be removed
