Danesfield House Hotel

JR, Rutland, stayed: May 2023

A lovely building with an interesting history. The location is good but there is no direct access to the river. The footpath to Marlow starts off quite enclosed and there are few views of the river. Steep inclines and slippery underfoot. We had to turn back due to heavy rain.
The grounds, however, are lovely to stroll around and are well maintained in the area closest to the hotel. If you have a car it's a short drive to Henley or Marlow. Plenty of stately homes and gardens to visit in the locality.
We stayed in a classic room. It was comfortable and clean. Just 2 negatives. It was roasting hot. We eventually managed to turn the main radiator off but the towel rail remained hot whatever we did. The room was south facing and heated up very quickly in the day despite Spring changeable weather. I understand some rooms do have air conditioning.
There was a lack of accessible plug sockets. Many were still round pin ! A 2/3 plug extension lead would have been handy.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food and drink was good quality and well served. Swimming Pool excellent. Really quiet in the mornings when we used it. Towels and toiletries available. Good showers and changing rooms.
Our booking through offpeakluxury.com was a very good deal. Service from the booking team was excellent. I would use again.

So glad we chose Danefield House

MB, Surrey, stayed: May 2023

We were taking our first short break since before lockdown and we were not disappointed. Everything was excellent. Booking was easy. Check in swift. We were shown to our room with the offer to have our luggage taken for us. We have not met either of these services anywhere else for quite a long while. Breakfast was superb. The staff all very effiecient and smart. The manager, who always looked smart and professional, was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and spacious. The grounds are a delight with fabulous views over the Thames. Dinner was lovely the chef obviously takes pride in sending out delicious food that you most certainly eat with your eyes first. The history of Danesfield House is very interesting as are the photos displayed showing the RAF doing their bit for the war. I have always been a Dirk Bogarde fan (giving my age away!) but
I didn't know he played such an important role in the war but how lucky for him that he did it at Danesfield House.

Staff

JK, Cambridgeshire, stayed: May 2023

I would like to thank the staff for their consistent and courteous nature. They made us feel very welcome and were always made you feel special. I would like to put a special mention to the restaurant staff- they all helped one another even when a set of crockery was broken they came to assist one another quickly- they always displayed a positive can do attitude. The leadership here must be working well as it felt like there is a great team spirit.

Review following recent 2-night stay

Karen P, Cambridgeshire, stayed: May 2023

Franklyn was absolutely brilliant - totally focused on customer service.
Unfortunately, I didn't appreciate the way I was spoken to by one of the male waiters at breakfast on my first morning; I don't normally complain but did speak to one of your Reception team about this.
The room was fine although quite dark and the complex lighting system didn't really help unfortunately. The staff in the Spa were excellent - nothing was too much trouble.
The location and grounds of the hotel were excellent.
However, I don't know whether I would stay again I'm afraid.
