Lovely location and excellent break

Sarah, West Midlands, stayed: September 2024

We had a spa treatment, lunch, evening meal and B&B. Everything about Ellenborough is excellent. Food and drink was exceptional and service outstanding.
The grounds are beautiful and I d imagine on a Summers day would be perfect.
Our room was spacious, comfortable and spotless.
The menu left us spoilt for choice and we are looking forward to another visit soon.

Cannot recommend this highly enough.

Beautiful place but so cold

Robert M, Staffordshire, stayed: November 2023

The hotel is truly a magnificent building in delightful grounds, with very good access to Cheltenham. The cocktail menu was very good and they were made excellently and well presented. Good range of wines and champagnes. Unfortunately the restaurant menu was just so-so and the quality of the food matched that. The real problem for us was that whole building including the bedrooms were icy cold, roaring log fires in the main rooms didn t really cut the mustard. The bedrooms had minimal radiators and a much needed electric convector heater. The bathroom was absolutely freezing, because of this we were tempted to come home on day one but we stayed for the entire stay as (a) there is a no refund policy and (b) we had a dinner appointment on day 2 in Cheltenham. I think a stay during warmer times would have been very different.

Nice location

PG, South Glamorgan, stayed: July 2023

We chose this 5 star venue for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and being dog friendly. Having access to a private garden area was beneficial. We were very pleased with the room. We felt choices on the evening meal menu were very limited however the breakfast was superb. Disappointing checkout where several queries (i.e. prepayment of dog and meal allowances of 50 per person per evening meal were not taken in to account) on the bill took 40 minutes to resolve. In addition, we did not receive the welcoming arrival drink, however a reduction was made to our checkout bill.

Disappointing

SI, stayed: January 2023

It was a very cold day. Our room was beyond freezing. Eventually we were given another room also in the annex. The pool is not at the spa and it was closed. It s outdoor! We didn t go to the spa - it was too cold to get there from the annex. This is not a Spa Hotel.
The dining room was closed! We had to eat in the bar on my birthday!
Huge bill. The food was well below the standard I would have expected. Wine ridiculously expensive.
What was supposed to be a special night was very disappointing in every way.
The bed was comfortable & the bathroom was very nice.

Great hotel and spa - shame about the restaurant

Gordon W, Hampshire, stayed: October 2022

The hotel and its staff are lovely. We had a relaxing few days and the spa treatments were superb. However the restaurant was not up to 5 star standard. The breakfast was not cooked to order but was help yourself. We understand some work was being carried out in the kitchen to cause this, but we should have been informed beforehand and been given a chance to rearrange out trip, which we would have done. The dinner food was very good, but we booked the restaurant and instead were seated in the inferior horse box. No explanation was given for this switch. A shame these spoilt our other otherwise excellent stay.

Thank you for your review.

On our website it states:

'The fine dining restaurant is currently closed as the hotel operates in a revised way. The same a la carte menu will be served in the Horse Box and Atrium.'

Sorry if you did not see this outlined on the website under the 'Facilities' tab.

Kind regards,
