Romantic valentines break
We found this hotel on line when looking for a country house hotel for valentines night. This hotel offered a superior room with a glass of wine on arrival, afternoon tea and 30 towards our evening meal which suited our needs. We hadn t planned on travelling so far but we struggled to find anything closer and we loved that the hotel was so old . Our first disappointment was the situation of the hotel which was surrounded by houses rather than countryside and completely lacked anything by way of a view . Our superior room was on the ground floor in a modern extension and looked out onto a hedge and , whilst it had everything you could want such as iron , hairdryer, toiletries etc , it was by no means luxurious. We then went in search of the bar and our complimentary glass of wine and were thrilled to find a beautiful cosy little bar in the old part of the hotel however we couldn t find any staff. Eventually after much searching my husband found someone to serve us with a glass of wine. It was at this point we found out that the hotel were hosting a wedding and that the wedding party were about to take over the bar area ! That was the last time we were able to see the bar as the wedding party had it for the whole afternoon and evening. After having our afternoon tea we had two options- either sit in our room or go out for a drive. We opted for a drive into Halifax - not really much I can say about that. Unfortunately we had the same problem in the evening- we couldn t use the bar and whilst a member of staff offered to bring us a drink to a little waiting area where there were 2 chairs, it took 20 minutes for him to bring our drinks. The meal we had was delicious and the dining area is lovely, also the service in the dining room was faultless but this was ruined by the fact that after our meal we had no choice but to go to our room. To sum up this is a beautiful old hotel with a very ordinary, modern extension with very ordinary rooms in extremely drab surroundings but it serves good food.
Enjoyable relaxing break
Great room and welcoming staff.
Care & attention
I wouldn't usually write a review of a hotel stay but I wanted to praise the staff at Holdsworth House for their care & attention when I was confined to my room for 24 hours with a bad back! (Not sustained at the hotel)
Prior to that incident we received a very warm welcome and enjoyed an excellent dinner and breakfast in the restaurant.
Only slight issue was the lack of soundproofing in the rooms, which is perhaps inevitable in a building of that age.
We would definitely stay again.
Food and room very good. Drinks expensive in the restaurant. Not much to walk to outside the hotel grounds as the area is very industrial. We missed having our evening walk after our meal. Fire alarm went off several times during our 2 day stay but there was no mention of it from the staff
Luxury anniversary break
Booked to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary excellent accommodation, good food and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. Couldn't fault it.
We thought the hotel, staff and restaurant were all excellent
Holdsworth House is absolutely stunning and the afternoon tea was excellent. The only slight complaint was that our bedroom was a little noisy, we could hear the people in the bedroom above moving about plus the noise from their bathroom. Apart from that it was a most enjoyable stay.
A lovely overnight stay made so by very friendly efficient staff throughout.
