Ancient History meets Old World Charm and Service

Northumberland Nick, stayed: June 2025

Located just off the A69 in the wooded grounds of the rolling Northumberland countryside lies this fantastic piece of history that offers a secluded and peaceful environment that is worlds and time away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life.
We stayed in a Castle View Room, which is a stones throw from the main Castle Building, and offers a scenic view of the Castle and beautifully landscaped gardens. The adjacent car parking is close to both the Castle and accommodation thus facilitating easy luggage transfer.
Check-In was simple where instructions for dinner and breakfast were provided.
Our first floor Castle View room was huge and tastefully appointed with period decor. There is complementary Tea, Coffee and Biscuits to enjoy with Sky TV and Free Internet provided. The Bed was comfortably firm and a good night sleep was easy with no disturbances.
Service was impeccable and attentive but not overbearing. Kudos to all staff with a special mention to Rachel, James and Lily, who presented her first History Tour around the Castle after breakfast the next day, which was again delicious. Even the Peacocks paid us a visit for the hope of some tastey chance...
There is plenty of opportunity for local works or just sitting reading a book in the Historic surrounding.
The History Tour after breakfast is well worth staying a bit later for. Learn about the history of this iconic Castle and the people who have lived and owned this piece of Englands Heritage.
Highly recommend a staycation when visiting the area or just a place to retreat to for a piece of mental relaxation.
Thanks Langley, you made our stay memorable and definitely top of our list for a repeat visit...

Queen for a Day

GJ, Australia, stayed: May 2025

We stayed in the Percy Room which was stunning. Very authentic.
(Just be aware room was up a spiral staircase which wasn't an issue for us but maybe for some people).

Staff were lovely and welcoming. We would definitely stay again.

We enjoyed both our Dinner and Breakfast.

Dinner, felt very special starting in the drawing room and continuing in the dining room. I am a vegetarian and I had many choices. Food was delicious.

Definitely felt like a queen for the day - a great experience.

Medieval castle sojurn

Anon, stayed: May 2025

We stayed for a romantic break in this genuine medieval castle.Converted into a hotel in 1986 it is still privately owned and feels genuine rather than Disneyesque. Our four poster room could not be faulted. The shower was big enough for 4 people (no bath). The view and gardens are immaculate. We did not sign for anything, drinks food etc which made us feel as though we were staying in a friend s private castle (we should be so lucky). And at the end the bill was exactly correct.
The only let down was that after a superb meal the first night my wife s halibut the second night was a tail end that was hard around the edges. Service at breakfast was very slow with 20 mins wait for tea and coffee which arrived after toast and cereals (in that order).
Apart from this the staff were friendly and efficient.
Great location, lovely room nice ambience good value and impeccably clean.
Free guided tour of the castle.

More than disappointing.

Jean, Cheshire, stayed: May 2025

Cost us 300 for one night with breakfast & dinner, food was average.
Room with no windows only a sky light view of the sky, no hot water apparently due to everyone using it at the same time. Bathroom ceiling extractor fan very noisy.
There is no outside sitting area at all at the hotel.

Very disappointing stay for our wedding anniversary

Maureen M, D&G, stayed: May 2025

Room access was via a staircase then an additional spiral staircase which was unsafe. No other room was available for that night so we had to ring for an escort each time we wanted out of the room to enable us to have the use of a service lift.
The following day around 12 mid day we were moved to a standard room 80 meters from the main building.
The menu was unchanged and very limited for the duration of our stay.
We were assured we could join the tour of the castle as it would not be a problem using the lift with an escort. However we were taken by lift up to the roof area where we waited while the rest of the party were shown the lower floors.
As we were gifted an afternoon tea we had this on the 2nd last day then checked out .
We felt some recompense was in order and took the matter up with the manager who was unsympathetic and said we should take the matter to OPL
