Special birthday
Stayed between Christmas and New year for my husbands special birthday. On arriving the facade of the castle is very impressive. Staff were very welcoming and informative. A few little niggles of worn decor in room such as missing pulls in drawers, a little noise from other guests and TV reception a bit fuzzy but these were all blown away by the fabulous surroundings such as the window seats, very comfy bed and quality bedding, delicious food in the restaurant for both evening meal and breakfast and finishing off with a tour of the castle. I left feeling like I had been fully immersed in history and I would recommend a room in the castle itself.
Excellent in every way
Excellent stay
Had an excellent stay. The staff were extremely friendly, the room lovely and the food was delicious. Will definitely stay there again.

Recommend to do the tour if you have time
Will come back again and stay in the castle.

what a fabulous place to stay, the dinner was to die for, the staff really friendly and attentive, it was our wedding anniversary,
so a wonderful romantic setting. Wish I had known it was dog friendly I would have bought the dog as well as the husband.

One Nighter
Stopped for one night on DBB. All the usual amenities are there for a 4star hotel with very nice grounds. However the let down for us was the restaurant for dinner.Booked a table for 7.30pm and went for a pre dinner drink at was 9.45 when we came out of the restaurant some 2and3/4 hours later. The service was very slow one hour between courses. We were asked if we wanted a dessert but it was 15 mins before we got a menu then the long wait after. The slow times could be due to that the american owner and his wife were dining at the same time with friends and all the attention was focused on them! In the mornings there is the battlements tour after breakfast which is recommended.

We had a wonderful stay, the staff were excellent, particularly the member of staff who took us on the battlements tour. Our only complaint was that on the morning after our stay we had no hot water so a cold shower, perhaps not as bad as boiling oil poured over one from the portcullis. But, enjoyable all the same.
