A return but be careful!

John, Shropshire, stayed: November 2018

Absolutely great, as usual - for the 32nd year. However please check your departure invoice carefully, as some unscrupulous person had deliberately booked drinks to our room. This was discovered when I checked out and the signatures on the bar tabs did not match mine. This was not really the hotel's fault, apart from this it was an enjoyable stay.

Lodore Falls Hotel near Keswick

Very comfortable hotel and not too long a drive from Scotland. Area and hotel setting have amazing views and interesting walks, with town of Keswick a great place to shop with its individual shops a treat for supermarket weary city dwellers

Excellent all round one night stay

GR, West Yorkshire, stayed: October 2018

We thoroughly enjoyed our special night s dinner B&B at Lodore Falls. It gave us the right amount of comfort and pampering in the understated and dog-friendly way that we appreciate. The staff were great and we enjoyed talking to them. We were very glad to be allocated a lake view room on our request as it was a special occasion for us. I would stay again and recommend it to family & friends. Thanks to all staff who looked after us.

Just perfect

KJ, essex, stayed: October 2018

We were looking forward to a much needed luxury break, with our little terrier, and this hotel did not disappoint. Luxury from start to finish, excellent food and drinks and lovely staff. Room was perfect and not what we expected as we had the dog in tow, but he was catered for as well as we were,

Everything was good except for the only problem was that we booked a lakeside room with a view of the lake and with a balcony which we understand we paid extra for.

However directly below the balconies at the front of the hotel are quite a few tables and chairs where patrons drink and smoke and make a fair amount of noise till late. Thus if you want to relax on your balcony with reasonable privacy you can't.

Not the 4 star service we expected!

Keith T, Staffordshire, stayed: May 2018

This is my first review of a hotel after decades of travel.

Arrived and all was well, reception efficient, room with lake view and bath en-suite as requested appeared fine.

Before going to dinner found bath and shower very low pressure. Decided to use later and reception said it would be fixed whilst we were at dinner.

Dinner was a little disappointing as for the main course we both had pan-fired plaice which was over-cooked. The one side was too hard to each much. We did not send it back but at the end the gentleman asked how it was, so we mentioned the problem. The response was: I will mention to the chef that he needs to hone his skills slightly. Not the best of responses.

Upon returning to the room, we found nothing had been done to the shower. I went down to reception and was told nothing could be done at that time of night. I was angry at the response, as we had not used a bath or shower all day. They had no other rooms. Asked about 24-hour plumber. Management had no authority and would not contact senior management. They have several other hotels in the Lakes. Apparently the only other room available in the group was in a 3-star Keswick centre. The advert outside shows: bar, restaurant, rooms. Nothing like the 4-star Lodore Falls. The other option was the possible use of a shared bathroom in the hotel subject to it not being in use.

The night managers had looked at the bath/shower and told me that the shower should be Ok. I tried, and the dribble stopped after a short period and temperature was minimal due to the pressure. I arose early the next morning and made a bath for my wife by the slow running water, boiling kettles and moving water from the hand-basin (which worked perfectly). A real 4-star experience.

Although monetary recompense was not my issue, the night managers said the bill would be amended in the morning. I also asked for the general manager to make contact. Was assured that would happen.

In the morning, no amendment was made, no managers were around. I paid and left. To date there has been no contact from the hotel.

Overall the hotel appears good, but problems are not corrected. We found from a member of staff that they knew of the pressure problem in that room, so as not fit for purpose, it should not have been let.
