Somewhere Special

RJB, Essex, stayed: March 2025

Lovely hotel in a great location. Junior suite was a lovely room. Fittings were just a little tired. Great restaurant. Werner was beautifully decorated.
Spa was untidy, small and scruffy. Staff very rude and uncaring. Hotel 5*, Spa 2*

Absolute terrible service

Damian G, Hampshire, stayed: November 2024

Got to hotel automatically charge a 100 pound to you card even though no mention of this charge when you book and paid for the night in full accordingly to receipt. Got to hotel and the receptionist wrongly told me I would be eating in the main restaurant that evening. Went for a drink in the lounge and waited 10 mins before anyone come over to me then another 15 mins for a drink. Went to spa where no one told you about where exactly it was or how it all works as it s 5 minute walk from hotel.
Went to spa which was small and bit dirty and dated. Jacuzzi didn t work . Had massage which was 20 mins not the 25 paid for and felt rushed but was okay . Went to room where it was cold and had a little heater in it that was hardly hot. Wendy to dinner at the restaurant and the staff setting the tables couldn t speak english or explain to me that I was actually booked in the spa restaurant as there was an event on in the main restaurant. Went to reception to confirm and the lady was extremely rude and unhelpful . Walked back to spa restaurant and had dinner which was okay and staff were better. Walked back again to the hotel in pitch black darkness with no lights to lead you there. Asked receptionist to see if I could borrow a plug as no USB ports in room and the response we don t have those kind of things here sir basically summed up their snobby attitudes. Had to go and sit in the car to charge the phone up for half hour. Slept in a very small bed in the room that was still very cold that night. Got up used spa again the next morning where jacuzzi still wasn t working . Then went back to main hotel to eat breakfast which was cold. Wen to check out and they charged me another 120 pound on top of that 100 they took on the first day instead of just taking the 20 pound balance. Said the 100 pound would be refunded to my card that day. Haven t relieved this money back yet after 2 weeks. Went to play a round of golf before I left the grounds . No bunkers on the course and the greens were unplayable with marks and ruts all over them . I honestly couldn t wait to leave the place . All in all an over expensive hotel where I paid premium price to relax in a premium room that was cold and where the staff are shocking .

BEAUTIFUL SPOT

AH, Buckinghamshire, stayed: June 2024

We stayed here for a special birthday - unfortunately I was not too well which clouded our weekend, but that was nothing to to with the hotel.
The grounds are beautiful, from first arriving. we were given a welcome coffee which was unexpected and very welcome. The locations for rooms can be spread out but they are not too far and there is hotel transport on hand should you wish to use it. We had a larger room which was very nice and comfortable.
I would say all the staff were first class, always ready to help.
We did not use the spa treatments but did use the pool which was lovely. We were hoping for better weather so we could just sit and relax but again, that was not the fault of the hotel!
We had the taster menu but because I did not feel too good I was not able to enjoy it as much as it warrented.
I think the downside was breakfasts - although there was a lot of choice they layout of the room meant guests were contanstly up against you/behind you, which was very distracting.
But we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there

Staff really are alll so happy and welcoming. They really go out of their way to make you happy. The car between the main house and flower rooms was great. Never took long at all. Pool was amazing and the food in the restaurant was very good. Overall would recc.

Great except spa

NF, Surrey, stayed: November 2023

I have tried to contact the spa. I had a full body massage on Monday 6th at 10am the lady used her elbow and has managed to bruise my shoulders and trap a nerve in my lower back where I now need to attend an osteopath and a physiotherapist to try to correct the issue.

My stay at the hotel was amazing the staff were attentive and very helpful. The reception staff were so helpful telling us about the history of the hotel.

The grounds were beautiful and the room was relaxing and spacious.

We say...

Thank you for your review.

Sorry to hear about your back and we are sure that if you contact the hotel and spa they would be able to assist with further advice.

We do hope your back is feeling better soon.

Kind regards,

Off Peak Luxury

Nice spa break

Emma, Greater London, stayed: October 2023

We had a nice spa break which involved lunch in the mansion lounge, use of the spa facilities, a massage and dinner in the brasserie. Our room was lovely and the grounds are beautiful. The only negatives we experienced were that there were nowhere near enough loungers/chairs for the amount of people using the pool/saunas etc. and table service was very slow in both the mansion lounge and the brasserie. We noticed that there were a few very unhappy tables that evening in the brassiere, however we would like to particularly mention and thank our waiter Cole, who served us very well and seemed to be managing some difficult conversations with other tables very well and would say he probably did a lot of damage control that evening on behalf of the other staff.

Poor stay.

Anon, stayed: September 2023

The room was tired. Wallpaper peeling in places. Paint work tired. Brassiere was very poor indeed. Low standard and a stout walk away from the mansion in the open. No lifts offered. Therefore changed to main restaurant which was much better. Second evening bad disturbance in bar which caused us to leave. Pursued this with staff that evening. No response from management next day. Spoke with them Sunday morning after asking again. Jacuzzi in spa closed off for whole of our stay. Refund of service charge offered and taken. Poor experience on something that cost nearly 2000 for three nights.

Lovely room.
Beautiful hotel and grounds
Restaurant in the main hotel was stunning and the food and service excellent
Pool was lovely but the spa / treatment rooms were a bit disappointing considering the grandeur of the hotel.
Lots of extras added on to the room bill - tips and service charges we were unaware of.
