3 night stay
Comfortable, clean room, helpful staff and location handy for visiting the Peak District.
Excellent breakfast.
Would have liked the staff in the restaurant to have worn face masks when waiting on tables though.
A great weekend stay
Overall great weekend stay. Friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is excellent and date sponge is just lovely. Room is a bit stuffy but I guess that how older hotels are.
3 day stay with family
Staff are excellent especially the restaurant staff and bar staff, food at night and at breakfast was of a good standard. Room was good but but not easy to access with luggage and children and the view and disturbance from the kitchen and bin area below was not the best.
Hotel and facilities are good, good location for exploring , value for money.
Staff were good
My only real criticism was that it was very hot when we stayed and that just wasn t catered for. We had a room that had window with one small opening and nothing else. No aircon and I had to ask for a fan which turned out to be small and useless. I know we don t get a lot of hot weather but that meant I hardly slept for 3 days. Other than that it was a good stay.
Good service and hotel. Nothing outstanding but served its purpose well.
Room was as you would expect. Service good. Food good.
Lovely time
The food from the restaurant menu was excellent and while a couple of new staff, who were learning, they tried very hard to ensure everything was as good as it could be.
I was suffering a little with hot flushes and the manager kindly moved us to a table near a door and kept it open for me. The staff really couldn t do enough for you.
Some rooms were in the process of being painted and refreshed. Bar area was modern and fresh.
Relaxing weekend away
The staff made this place. Very friendly and accommodating. They did not mind our dog in the slightest.
A bit disappointing
We had basic rooms so I am sure this review would have been better if we had been able to upgrade. I do understand though that with a last minute booking this was not possible. We were there for 4 nights. The rooms were really hot and stuffy, with tiny top opening windows, covered by Roman blinds (which I had to take down to get any air in). I think this really needs addressing.
The bar staff were not very attentive, so we walked to the village pub most days, and the public areas were not cleaned at all throughout the duration of our stay. There was litter on the floors, paint spots, a messy and unwelcoming reception area. I think that it did not do Off Peak Luxury a service as you usually have great places to stay, but this one is a beautiful building turned into a Travel Lodge - silk purse to sow's ear came to mind, and that is such a shame as it could be such a grand, beautiful place.
