We had a lovely stay.
Positives: the free boat trip which came with the room. Friendliness of staff in the restaurant and bar
Negatives: I thought parking could and should have been provided free of charge with the hotel. Although I was aware it wasn t at the time of booking so this didn t have a negative impact on our overall stay.
Disappointed with our stay
When arriving at the hotel we were demanded to have to leave our car and keys with a stranger for the entire stay as the car park was busy, I was not happy with this at all as nothing on previous emails was said about this possibly being an option. I had a bit of a stand off with the lady at reception over this who proceeded to ring multiple people asking questions and loudly stating I felt hesitant about leaving my car making me feel very uncomfortable. Our room was okay, however had a mouldy ice bucket in our room was not nice at all and made us question the cleanliness of the whole room. We then went down stairs to the terrace to enjoy our free welcome drink which the memebers of staff behind the bar new nothing about making us feel like they didn t have much knowledge at all of the offers they give out. We then went for food, the staff were very rude apart from 1 man who was lovely and kept checking if we were okay! But the majority of the staff were not helpful and clearly did not have any passion for the job. When we left the restaurant there was a young girl behind the bar talking very loudly about handing her notice in due to it being so busy, which I found so unprofessional especially when the hotel is expensive these conversations should not happen when in view of customers. Overall we were highly disappointed with our stay as it was a pricey night away as it was, and would definitely not be recommending to a friend
Disappointing
The check in process was not great, as we walked to our room their was a bad smell of old food in the corridor. The room was ok but calling it deluxe was not accurate. The bed was pretty comfortable though. We had hairs left in the shower and the lack of cleanliness was carried on in the restaurant where food stains were splashed up the window frame where we sat. The food was ok, though the portions were too small. The breakfast, though, was excellent. For just under 300 for one night, despite its location, we felt it was poor value for money.
Spring in the Lakes
We arrived on a Sunday of a Bank Holiday weekend for a two night stay. We have stayed here before but the room was really excellent. The bathroom had a full bath and a separate walk in shower. The dressing room could double as an office and the bedroom was king size.
The restaurant was busy but the service was friendly and efficient/
The location of the hotel is right on the lakeshore and close to the boats.
A great stay and great accommodation
Birthday Break in Bowness
First time booked with OPG would definitely recommend the offer we booked was excellent.
We had a lovely 2night break, the hotel was a bit dated the location was excellent, our room overlooking the lake was amazing great views.
Had a lovely evening meal and enjoyed the food, we had a view of the garden and lake, the staff were very polite and tentative.
The lounge with bar was good with nice views, all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed the hotel and location, we would stay here again.
The reception staff were unhelpful arguementative and unaccomodating. The process for parking at the off site car parking was confusing and not ideal. The food in the restaurant was of poor quality both at breakfast and evening meal. The drinks were very expensive, 12.50 for one glass of wine is extortionate. The decor in the public areas and bedroom need attemtion, it looks very tired and dated. This hotel is certainly not value for money and lacks the luxury of a 4 star property. The only thing this hotel has is a wonderful location. Would not be booking again .
Our expectations did not match what we received.we should of received complimentary drinks on arrival and especially when I phoned ahead to say we was celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary we did not feel any different to say walking in off the street.
The restaurant also did not live up to expectations, evening and breakfast.Included in my stay, the cost of our meal was up to 90,although after ordering we had to pay extra for certain choices on the menu (steak etc) even if our meal did not exceed the cost included in our package. Also on sitting at the restaurant we was told we can only have a starter and main or a main then afters. We later found out we should of been able to choose all 3 courses. To late now.
The rooms are good with a great view, clean and comfy.forget the tv.could not get this working
Massage rooms as expected although our all body massage included coughing and sneezing threw out and since been suffering with tonsillitis.not sure if it s connected
Overall there is a real lack of quality and leadership for me to give a good review
Best view of lake Windermere!
Had a great stay here over Easter. Excellent facilities throughout.
Staff very welcoming, respectful and helpful and room had spectacular views over the lake.
Room had a few very small things that a brief refurb would easily resolve. No complaints in general.
Restaurant was great and very accommodating for vegans and allergens, with its own menu. Just ensure to book times with receptions if you plan to have meals here. Afternoon tea also available, however if vegan/gluten free ensure to book 24h in advance.
If you want treatments then make sure you book before arriving. Swimming pool on the small side but should be fine during off-peak times.
Location is ideal as you're straight out on to the lake to enjoy the day and the train station is just a short bus ride from outside the hotel to most of the villages (Grasmere/Ambleside/Rydal), Coniston from the train station).
Overall very good value for money when you add in the meals. Would definitely stay here again!
