Two night stay at Rosslea Hall Hotel

James R, Lanarkshire, stayed: December 2024

My wife and I recently enjoyed a 2 night break, at the hotel. We were very warmly welcomed by reception. We were asked if we could manage the stairs to our room, I did reply that I had difficulty. Straight away, we were then offered a ground floor disabled room, which was greatly appreciated. The room was large with an enormous very comfortable bed. A wet room was extremely good. Although the room was a bit tired around the edges, it was adequate and clean. One bone of contention however, the key card to enter the room didn't work very well, and we needed assistance from the reception. This was promptly dealt with. Breakfast was exceptionally good with excellent choices, both Continental and anything you wanted from the Menu selection. Dinner, was a bit hit or miss of a sorts! There didn't appear to be anyone having a main meal in the bar area where it was being served.
It felt cold and empty. Menu offered several choices, and although adequate it took longer than anticipated to be served. I had to have my last meal returned as it was cold! Obviously, lack of staff at this time wasn't particularly helpful. That said, the waiter, also the bar tender, was very good at his job.
All in all, it was a pleasant stay for so late in the season.

Thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at Rosslea. From the minute we arrived we were treated superbly. Staff were so polite, friendly and helpful. We had dinner both nights and couldn t fault it. Breakfast was also very good. Just an all round nice place for a couple of nights away from home.

Lovely hotel but the staff need trained

David, Orkney, stayed: July 2024

On our arrival we were asked to pay the full ampunt, this didn't bother me and never thought, then i looked at the booking email and i had paid the two night a month ago, anyway no problems with the receptionist and wohld be sorted out the next day, and it was, full refurn.
The evening meal and drinks were very good, but two of the three staff that were on duty didn't know what they were doing, and was quite rediculous, staff training was required. Our 2nd night we didn't eat in the hotel and had a few drinks, different staff were on and they all knew what to do, the breakfasts were very good with plent of choices, yes we would stay there again and hope that staffing was just a blip, thanks

Far from Luxurious

After staying in a couple of other hotels from your website - there was no comparison. Unfortunately it was more like a Travelodge, stains on curtains, discoloured paint on ceiling etc etc

Not a great experience

Anon, stayed: January 2024

We struggled to find the hotel firstly, as nothing but the restaurant (which is under a different name) is signposted. We checked in quite quickly and were told that we should come back down for dinner quickly, even though our reservation wasn t for another half an hour, as the kitchen will be closing soon. The room was extremely dated, with a view of the car park, and definitely didn t include the free room upgrade that came with our package - not the relaxing country break we had envisioned.

Our booking included a two course meal and welcome drink, so we were excited for dinner. The restaurant was completely silent, which created an incredibly awkward atmosphere, with one girl serving all tables. The food was mediocre, but the girl serving was polite as clearly doing her best.

We could hear other guests coming down to complain at reception, as the restaurant is silent, about the fact there wasn t any hot water. We had not been told this was the case but the lady at reception said they were aware and had rung to solve it and there was nothing else she can do . This has clearly been going on for a few hours but the team failed to tell us when checking in. We remained without hot water until checking out the following morning, with no apology or update given.

We have used Country Hotel Breaks for other offers and had a great experience at those, however this package was completely different, with hardly any of the things included even being offered to us. We are shocked this venue has 4 stars from the Scottish Tourist, unless there is a completely different section / room selection / restaurant within the hotel that we didn t experience.
