Facilities at Spread Eagle Hotel & Spa

Set in the historic Sussex market town of Midhurst within its own picturesque grounds, the Spread Eagle Hotel dates back in parts to 1430 and was once a coaching inn favoured by the rich and famous of the time. Today, it is the quintessentially English historic hotel, retaining its heritage, yet providing every contemporary comfort.

Stepping into the hotel is like taking a journey back in time. Relax in the comfortable leather chairs of the 15th-century lounge with its ancient oak beams and leaded-light windows, warmed by huge open fire in the cooler months. Just above the lounge is the Queen's Suite, said to have accommodated Elizabeth I when she came this way in 1591. The sentried hallway leads to the Restaurant with its inglenook fireplace and stained glass windows, where guests enjoy fine dining in traditional surroundings.

Lovely evening away with husband for his birthday

Karen H, Hampshire, stayed: May 2019

I booked dinner bed & breakfast and we had the loveliest time. We used the gym, steam room and Jacuzzi. It was all just so relaxing and lovely and I will be coming back again in the summer with my sister this time for Afternoon Tea.

A lovely relaxing break

Anon, stayed: February 2019

We loved the customer service, the touches like champagne and homemade biscuits in the room. Food was very good.
I'd be interested in palm oil free products being used in the spa and hotel.
I would come again, we enjoyed the homely atmosphere in the lounge and bar.

Spread Eagle Review

Anon, stayed: February 2019

This is the 2nd time I have stayed here and I love it's ambience and charm. Room was lovely and comfortable . Food was excellent and the restaurant staff both at dinner and breakfast were excellent. Only couple of areas for improvement - pool is a little too cold (I gave same feedback last year) and not enough lounger beds although I appreciate there is not much space but we had to sit on the bench as not enough loungers. Spa treatments quite expensive - gone up quite a bit since last year but treatment was good and the relaxation room is a lovely treat. I would definitely recommend this Hotel and I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely stay

Catherine M, stayed: October 2018

Beautiful hotel. Dinner was excellent. Spa was so clean. Small points for improvement are as follows
1. When we arrived, receptionist was dealing with a booking on the phone but did not acknowledge us although knew we were there.
2. Breakfast service was poor. Took ages for my scrambled egg on toast and burnt on arrival.
