Birthday celebration stay

Jill S, Cheshire, stayed: July 2019

We recently booked into the wonderful Stanbrook Abbey to celebrate my husbands birthday - we chose the hotel as we thought it looked different to the normal weekend getaway and we weren t disappointed! The Abbey has been tastefully and sensitively restored. Taking inspiration from one or two significant original designs these have been subtly reflected into the new decor and joins the new to the old. My favourite place was the lavender garden which is also the final resting place of 141 nuns who over time had resided within the Abbey it really is a tranquil and spiritual place. Will definitely recommend to others.

Poor customer service

Beverley, Essex, stayed: July 2019

Stunning hotel and great location. Food in restaurant was very good but the customer service was very poor. We had to ask several times for certain things on several occasions as the staff forgot. It was my husbands birthday and when we told the waiter, he said he would do something special for him with his dessert but again nothing happened. Either the waiter forgot or the kitchen staff forgot. Either way I was very disappointed. During breakfast I asked for green tea but received a teapot that had a green teabag but also a breakfast tea bag in it. Again lack of concentration from staff. Our friends also ordered coffee with breakfast and they received a cafeti re with no coffee in it!! We ordered toast and had to remind the waitress as she forgot. The staff were friendly but it would have been nice to be served by one member of staff during meal times as you then receive that personal touch .
We have booked through Off Peak Luxury several times and have received excellent customer service which makes this visit very disappointing and not up to the normal standard that we have come to expect from Off Peak Luxury hotels.
When checking out, we did bring our concerns to the attention of reception staff.

Top Class Experience

BW, West Midlands, stayed: May 2019

We only had one night but it felt like two days with the late check out. Excellent special package deal including signature room with 4-poster; both a bottle of Prosecco in the room and a botte of house wine with dinner (instead of the champagne); 3 course evening meal, full breakfast and a private tour of this historic former Nunnery. Loved it all. My only negative comment would be the dim lighting and lack of shaving mirror in the bathroom. Some irritating wedding guests but you can't legislate for that!
