Lovely Hotel however let down by the service
I booked our stay through Country Breaks which was all great. When we arrived at the hotel it was lovely, no complaints on the facilities or actual hotel itself. The only observation is that the bed was very small. We stayed in Tulip Room. Food was very nice in the restaurant and the atmosphere in the bar after was nice and relaxing with the open fire and some various card/board games available to play. However, we were slightly disappointed with the service. The staff all seemed to be very young and under experienced for the level of service you would expect at this lovely hotel. We booked a package deal with processco on arrival, 3 course meal and bottle of house wine included for what we paid. However, no processco on arrival, the young girl on reception although pleasant directed us incorrectly to our room, she didn't know where it was. We had to ask for our processco before going to dinner and then at the meal, we had to remind the waitresses of our package we had booked. We felt this let down our experience as we were trying to justify what we had paid for the whole visit. We ended up liaising with the hotel manager for anything we needed who was very helpful, however more training to all staff across the board I feel is required here and will make it a more enjoyable stay.
Booked as a spa break
Arrived with another couple for a spa break after the Xmas rush.
Rooms were plain and under whelming. No pictures on the walls, tired and dated bathrooms. Spa was a big disappointment. No indoor swimming pool. Just an outside larger than average jacuzzi and a sauna and no loungers to relax. Would not class my stay as a spa break which was the intention. Best thing about our visit was the food and staff.
Lovely Break
Had a lovely stay at Taplow, room was nice, staff and food brilliant. Saw some dears on the grounds, would definitely stay again.
Lovely stay
We had a lovely stay. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Cara was amazing, chatty, helpful, always on hand to help and looked after us.
Was slightly disappointed with the spa treatments. We didn t receive what we booked. Would have been good if the staff checked with us what we were having before they started
Superb restaurant and service
This is a wonderful old building that was been luxuriously updated, while preserving its original features.
We had a deluxe room which I felt was rather disappointing, being quite small, with a limited view and up three flights of stairs.
For us the saving grace was the restaurant. Superb cuisine presented in a beautiful location by totally professional staff. I would like to express a special thanks to our maitre d', Jacob for his superb service
Romantic Break
A 3 night stay was booked in the junior suite which although was part of a deal, was not cheap.
The room we had was very large & the bathroom was excellent, apart from not having a bath. However the room itself seemed tired. There was a massive hole in the lining of her curtains, which the sun shone through showing the big rectangle of material that was missing. The sofa was stained. The rickety wardrobe doors kept opening by themselves & there was no fridge. All minor things, but I had known about it before, would never have booked it.
I thought that the restaurant was overpriced and the wine especially so. So much that after the first night (when our meal was included) , we ate and drank elsewhere. Luckily the river Thames was only 3/4 of a mile away & there are pubs and bars there.
My disappointments were with the needless overpricing of of food & drink, the pricing of which varied on how much 'discretionary service charge' had been added. A bottle of average white wine was 36 - although it was listed in the wine menu as 32. It just put me off ordering any more.
The outside look of the hotel and the grounds was excellent, staff were really helpful. Just let down a bit by the room itself & needless overpricing. It was a fair distance for me to travel to, so probably wouldn't come again.
Ideal for a weekend getaway
We enjoyed our time at Taplow House Hotel. The staff were efficient and friendly. We enjoyed walking round the grounds. The restaurant was brighter than we re used to for dinner. The food was excellent and reasonable value.
BS
Paid for a deluxe room but the room felt like a standard room . The restaurant was nice but was advised numerous times , some dishes on the menu were unavailable.
