History of the hotel

The Elms was built in 1710 and designed by Thomas White, a pupil of Sir Christopher Wren. White's other work includes the Guildhall at Worcester, which contains many features similar to the house. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the carriage drive was once lined with elm trees, though these have long died out and been replaced with limes.

Child Policy

Plenty to do within the hotel and superbly located for day trips to West Midlands Safari Park, Cadbury World and many more.

Deluxe rooms cannot accommodate children.

Master rooms and Suites can accommodate additional beds and cots for children. Please call to check availability, supplements will apply. Children are accommodated on a Bed and Breakfast basis and are charged at £20 per child per night.

This charge applies for all children aged 1-15 years.  It includes their bed & breakfast.  It will still apply if you bring your own cot.

The charge for 16 years and above is charge at £65 for bed & breakfast, per night.  However this is only if the child is sharing with parents in a room suitable to accommodate them.

Children under 10 years of age can dine in the Bar only, not in the Brookes restaurant, for dinner.

Dogs Policy

The Elms has acres of grounds and open countryside in every direction, so they always give a warm welcome to dogs.

If you'd like to bring pooch along for an extra £15 per night, book into one of the dog-friendly Coach House bedrooms. Please remember to bring your own dog's bedding, food and treats.

The grounds

With 10 acres of outdoor space you have plenty of gardens to explore, whilst the more energetic can play Tennis or Croquet.

Wander among the Edwardian tiered garden, fountain, rose garden and orchard. By simply exploring our gardens you will plenty to love about the great outdoors.

The herb garden echoes The Elms' heritage, bringing to life what was once an essential feature of the country house estate.  It is home to more than 100 varieties of herb, creating endless flavour combinations for our chefs and a wonderfully fragrant atmosphere to relax in.

A night away at The Elms

CT, Worcestershire, stayed: October 2018

Our overnight stay at the Elms was very pleasant with some interesting cocktails in the bar, coffee and tea served sitting by a log fire in the grand hallway and an extremely good three course meal served in the restaurant. Our room was clean and had a double aspect and comfortable bed and because of the nature of the building was reached by climbing quite a few stairs. We didn't have time to investigate the spa nor the gardens.

Enjoyable relaxing weekend

Dan, Worcestershire, stayed: October 2018

We returned for our 1 year wedding anniversary so it was great to be back to where we had so many happy memories from the wedding day itself. Staff really looked after us and even provided us with some anniversary truffles. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing break.

Partner birthday surprise

Rachel T, West Midlands, stayed: March 2018

I'd booked an over night stay which was for my partners surprise birthday treat which included a 3 course meal a drink of our choice and full access to the hotel spa and pool. I also booked us in for the next day for afternoon tea which was also lovely but just a little disappointed that you don't get a choice with the sandwich as there was fresh fish on some and for people that don't like fish it's not very apart from that we both had a lovely 2 days defo but again...

New management required to ensure smooth running

Tina, Shropshire, stayed: February 2018

For a small hotel you wouldn't expect to run out of hot and cold water part way through having a shower! We rang reception to inform them to be told that because the hotel was full we needed to wait 30 minutes for water?!! ensuring a sufficient boiler before you charge guests.
The service in the restaurant was appalling. The manager appeared very stressed and unable to lead his staff. We had to wait around 20 minutes for a drink and a further 40 mins for an appetizer following placing our order! We noted all other guests were experiencing the same issues.  We were also shocked to see a planning permission request for an additional 35 rooms?! How?!  The Elms you need to ensure adequate infrastructure to run the services to an acceptable level and employ competent staff who aren't just know it all's, but who genuinely have experience in the hospitality industry.

Various mistakes were made during our visit, rooms were tried, pool area inc windows dirty

EH, Derbyshire, stayed: January 2018

This visit was bought for us (a family) for a Christmas present value 400 including evening meal. We were very disappointed to say the least, with the experience as a whole.

I was contacted on 3 occasions prior to our visit to book the evening meal, on each occasion, I explained this had been booked on the initial hotel booking and then consequently each time I was contacted! This should probably have been taken as a sign of the lack of organisation to follow!
The hotel is not exactly family friendly as it claims, we were told that the 3 course evening meal in the restaurant that was included in our package could not be used in the restaurant as we had a child! This was a little annoying as we specifically only looked for family friendly hotels, but we persevered. That evening, when entering the bar we sat at our reserved table (in the corner of the bar), we were asked if we would like a highchair for our toddler to which we replied yes, this was never put into fruition but he sat nicely whilst we waited for our meal. My partner was knocked on several occasions by the waiters and bar staff as there was not enough room for them to pass! The starter was perfectly adequate (meat sharing platter) however perhaps could have done with the usual accompaniments but this is perhaps being picky, the second course came and I had ordered risotto (as not being able to eat in the restaurant we were only allowed to eat from the bar menu!) this came uncooked. We flagged this with the waitress and expected nothing more than the meal to return cooked. The waitress returned within a couple of minutes and said 'the Chef said this is how we cook risotto, what else would you like!' Obviously as paying customers we found this infuriating! I explained that we eat on a regular occasion and have eaten at some top end restaurants where such a dish is offered within the tasting menu etc this is certainly not how risotto is cooked (it was not al dente it was just not cooked!) and even so if it is not to the customers satisfaction surely it would be rectified? I went on to say that I did not wish to eat anything further she said fine and walked off!
My Partner and I were infuriated by the rudeness shown and decided to ask for the manager. He came over and was very apologetic and agreed we should not have been spoken to in this manner, he offered us a bottle of wine and we retired to our room.. Hungry!
The next morning we went to breakfast approx 7:15 (again included in the package) and they had no record of us.. she eventually located our information and seated us. The room was empty but this was probably a good job as they hadst finished setting up and were also cleaning from the previous evening! The eggs Benedict ordered was slathered in hollandaise (literally drowning), the next day I ordered again and requested the hollandaise separate which was very pleasant. Maybe they should offer this in future as I appreciate everyone has differing opinions.
The rooms had the potential to be nice however extremely tired, various cracks, painting needed to be touched up, curtains had an abundance of loose threads, the radio had been painted (and poorly), carpet joins and freys where carpet strip should have been present, shower cold, water marks on bathroom wall, they also smelt fusty and old!
Spa area was nice, the pool area again pleasant but cleanliness was poor, dust piling under the loungers, windows (which surround the pool) were filthy inside and out. We did request another robe as our Son dropped some food on ours, we were told they could not help hotel guests and we would need to take this up with the main reception... Again although not a major point, not particularly good practice in customer service!
We were also supposed to receive a welcome drink on arrival, this was never offered!
This hotel has the potential due to the historic appearance and grounds to be a extremely good hotel but the employees need some serious training on customer service. Maybe another good suggestion would be to put some of the money they are charging back into the hotel.
