Facilities at The Rose and Crown at Romaldkirk
The hotel oozes with character with open fire places, wibbly wobbly walls, oak beams, it is a truly unique property and with only 14 rooms each guest feels special. The rooms have undergone a refurbishment in 2014 and still retain original features with modern amenities. Being in such a picturesque village the church is known as 'The Cathedral of the Dale' and still on the village green are the stocks and water pumps from days gone by.
The restaurant is known in the area and has been awarded some of the top awards yet the food is homely rather than fussy and the hotel endeavors to source as many ingredients as possible from local suppliers.
Home truths
- The rooms are split between the main house and the mews cottages to the rear.

Restaurant
The menu is influenced by the seasons and ingredients that are local to the area. Their food has been recognised with Taste Durham Highest Quality Assured & Local Champion accolades. You can enjoy lunch and dinner in the relaxed setting of our bar area... oak settles, antique chairs, rural nick-nacks and an open fire create a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere.
The Rose & Crown also serve dinner and Sunday lunch in the delightful oak panelled restaurant which has all of the charm and character that you would hope to find in a quintessential dale's inn.
There is an excellent selection of over sixty wines from both the New and Old World as well as real ales, continental largers and over a dozen malt whiskies including a strong showing from Islay.

Traditional English Inn
Warm & welcoming, classy but not pretentious is how I'd describe this comfortable inn. Our room was very comfortable; everything you needed was there. The location, in this old village is perfect for a getaway at any time of year. We dined in the restaurant where the service & standard of the food was excellent. Afterwards, we relaxed in the cosy bar, with its roaring fire & traditional furniture.
Birthday bash
Hi my wife and I had a lovely stay on her birthday the meal was excellent and so was the breakfast, the staff were very efficient and helpful we would definitely stay there if in the area
Very Good Stay
Weekend treat
A weekend TREAT, a voucher recieved from our family. The superior suite was very spacious clean & comfy with new refurbished big bathroom. Idyllic quiet Sunday morning lie in. Lovely food.
Dog friendly with walks galore on doorstep.
Professional but relaxed and friendly
Cannot fault this hotel. Brilliant staff. Loved their attention to detail and the efforts they are making to reduce plastics in the running of the hotel.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rose & Crown which we thought was a lovely hotel, spotlessly clean, delicious food and top notch staff. The TV in our room was not working properly which I'm sure they will rectify, but in every other respect our room was very comfortable and well-appointed.
birthday break
was looking for a relaxing break and found it here. food was first class as was staff. would highly recommend
