Facilities at The Rose and Crown at Romaldkirk

The hotel oozes with character with open fire places, wibbly wobbly walls, oak beams, it is a truly unique property and with only 14 rooms each guest feels special. The rooms have undergone a refurbishment in 2014 and still retain original features with modern amenities. Being in such a picturesque village the church is known as 'The Cathedral of the Dale' and still on the village green are the stocks and water pumps from days gone by.

The restaurant is known in the area and has been awarded some of the top awards yet the food is homely rather than fussy and the hotel endeavors to source as many ingredients as possible from local suppliers.

Restaurant

The menu is influenced by the seasons and ingredients that are local to the area. Their food has been recognised with Taste Durham Highest Quality Assured & Local Champion accolades.   You can enjoy lunch and dinner in the relaxed setting of our bar area... oak settles, antique chairs, rural nick-nacks and an open fire create a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere.

The Rose & Crown also serve dinner and Sunday lunch in the delightful oak panelled restaurant which has all of the charm and character that you would hope to find in a quintessential dale's inn.

There is an excellent selection of over sixty wines from both the New and Old World as well as real ales, continental largers and over a dozen malt whiskies including a strong showing from Islay.

Lovely night away

Helen, Lincolnshire, stayed: September 2016

A short stop on our way up to Scotland so we weren't able to explore the surrounding area but the hotel was perfect and the staff extremely pleasant. A very nice meal in pleasant surrounds so all in all a great stay.

Warm and friendly

David W, cleveland, stayed: January 2017

This stay was a gift to my wife and I. It was a cold and wet afternoon when we arrived, but upon entering the Rose &Crown we were greeted by a nice roaring fire and very friendly staff. Our room was in a block away from the main building, it was decorated to a very high standard, comfortable, clean and warm. Food was exceptional, the village is beautiful, we will be coming back and stay for longer next time.

Nice gift from our family

KD, Cleveland, stayed: July 2018

A very pleasant stay overnight . Tea and scones on arrival, excellent dinner and breakfast next morning. All the staff were pleasant, friendly without being intrusive. We had one slight problem with room 6 which we were allocated. I am over 6 feet tall and there were sloping ceilings in the lounge area and bathroom areas. This meant a few head bumping incidents on the beams of the ceiling . We didn't ask to change rooms as the bedroom was superb and we coped but it might be an idea to ask guests who are allocated room 6 how tall they are.  There are also steps inside the room so walking difficulties could be a problem to some people .
