Outstanding Weekend at Tylney Hall

FM, stayed: September 2019

Recommended by good friends and taking advantage of a 'Romantic Break" to celebrate my Husband's Birthday, we had a wonderful weekend. Let's get niggle over first, we had to ask for at least three replacement door keys which meant constant trips back to Reception.
The property is stunning and we were given a warm welcome. The grounds take your breath away, so many places to explore. Vittorio, who welcomed us in to delicious breakfasts got to know his guests very quickly and we were always acknowledged whenever we came across each other in the hotel. Dinner in the Restaurant, where we were so beautifully served by Cecile, was outstanding and included two amuse bouche. The swimming pool area is gorgeous with comfortable beds and thick mattresses. Comfortable lounges with plenty of seating and a beautiful patio with plentiful tables and comfortable chairs looking over an 'infinity' lawn. We had the most fabulous and memorable weekend and will look forward to returning.

Wonderful relaxing ambience and gorgeous surrounding gardens. Public rooms have exceptional style. Excellent attentive service in the dining room for Dinner and Breakfast. Both meals were of a very high culinary standard.

Tylney Hall

James C, Devon, stayed: March 2019

Interesting and impressive house; splendid and very well maintained extensive grounds with unusual avenue of giant redwoods. We had a pleasant small suite, having been upgraded - but for the hotel's convenience, I think, in regard to the following.
We stayed over a weekend. Saturday night was a disaster. The hotel was extremely busy with two large birthday parties, and the public areas so overcrowded that we were unable to find seating for some time in the early evening. When we did, I had to queue at the bar to order drinks. Staff were as helpful as possible, but clearly overwhelmed.
We had been unable to book dinner until 8pm, later than we had wished but understandable in the circumstances. When we did go in, it was a timed 55 minutes before we even got as far as an amuse bouche.
Sunday evening was uncrowded and service/restaurant good.
We understand the need for hotels of this type to prioritise large bookings, as clearly this is where profits lie. However, one questions the ethics of taking private small bookings when the hotel is so busy, as, demonstrably, staff are unable to give such guests the service that they expect (at this price) and that the hotel would wish to give.
I mentioned these matters at check-out and asked for the General Manager's comments. I received an anodyne reply with an offer of an upgrade at our next stay - which we will not be taking up.

Could be so much better

Anon, stayed: March 2019

Gorgeous hotel sadly the restaurant was disappointing. The food overly complicated and not all that great. Service in the restaurant is disastrous, very long wait and staff couldn t explain half of the menu. Very long wait for hot breakfast too and the coffees were served cold as a result. Also not knowing what a flat white is in a four star hotel is a bit worrying. That said, the location is gorgeous and the staff, although overworked and clearly understaffed, were all very friendly and welcoming.

Well worth a visit

Atul, Essex, stayed: February 2019

We stayed for one night as a get away break. Having driven 2 hours to the venue, we were immediately felt welcomed by friendly staff. Our room was upgraded and soon we were relaxing having a beverage and forgotten about the drive. As it was a Monday afternoon, we had the pool to ourselves.
There are a couple of lovely lounges to have a cocktail before dinner.
Dinner was included in the deal and was delicious. The service was friendly without being intrusive.
The next morning breakfast was bountiful and scrumptious.
We will be back in the summer to see the gardens in Bloom.
