Home truths

  • The hotel has a limited number of twin bedded rooms, if you require twin beds please contact our reservations team before booking.
  • In our view the restaurant is right at the top end of the 2 AA Rosette range, and serves some exquisite dishes based on fresh local produce and game. However, those with a less adventurous palate might be a bit limited for choice, especially on extended stays.
  • Most external photographs just show the original main house, but the present day building is extended to both ends so the size of it might surprise at first glance. It is quite sympathetically done though.
  • Some of the corridors are a bit on the dark side.

A great hotel in a super location

Ian, Lancashire, stayed: October 2019

We really enjoyed our 3 night break at Wood Hall spa. The staff were really friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and our room was very clean and beautifully presented. The pool and spa facilities were not busy so it was very relaxing, just what we needed. So much to do in the area so we can't wait to return.

Good But Could be Great

Vince, Shropshire, stayed: September 2019

This hotel is set in acres of garden and is a lovely location. We were well looked after on arrival. Our room overlooking the extensive gardens was fine with a big comfortable bed and a powerful shower.
The hotel is let down by its restaurant. The country break deal of D BB included 35 for dinner. You really have to pick carefully not to over spend. The quality of the food at dinner was ok but not of the quality I expect from a luxury hotel. As for the wine prices for average wines a joke. The waiting staff whilst efficient seemed to want to become our best friends and were far too intrusive for my liking. Breakfast the next morning was worse. Dried up bacon and tasteless mushrooms are what I expect from a budget hotel buffet not an individually served high class hotel.

Really enjoyed our stay restaurant was excellent spa was good overall enjoyed our stay only problem was the staff were only interested in the wedding guests we arrived at 1100 and were told the room wasn't ready and was only guaranteed for 1500 they couldn't give us any idea what time to come back and didn't offer us use of the spa

A quality hotel

Anon, stayed: August 2019

This is a good hotel our classic room was fine, food was of excellent quality. The staff were friendly and helpful, although the waiting staff varied every evening, and at times there seemed a lack of continuity with their performance.
Our only major fault was the 35 allowance for a 3 course evening meal. This could only be achieved if you ate the 3 cheapest options within the 3 courses for your meal. Ok for one night and if you are a vegetarian but not for a 4 night stay. Also once the service charge "optional" is added then no meal can be purchased for 35.

Almost there but not quite.

Anon, stayed: June 2019

The hotel was very comfortable and the spa was excellent. However, attention to detail in some areas was lacking, e.g. there were no bath robes in the room. Under the radiators need hoovering in the restaurant! Staff were struggling at breakfast when busy due to the poor ergonomics of the layout.
