History of the hotel

Jacob and Johanna embarked on extensive renovations of the inside of the house, advised by Simpson and Brown architects in Edinburgh. They also started an ambitious programme to improve the grounds, including replanting woodlands, building woodland walks, and restoring the splendour of the historic walled garden.

The result of their work is the luxurious hotel you see today, combining the charm of the house's Victorian heritage with the comfort and convenience of the 21st century.

Note: To honour the history of the House and its inhabitants, the current tartan in the hall and staircase is a mixture of the Murray and the Sutherland tartans. It was created for us by McKay in Durham. The check is taken from the Murray tartan, the red line made a little softer and the blues and greens are derived from the Sutherland tartan.

Child Policy

Children are welcome at Cringletie House and stay free of charge on a bed and breakfast basis up to age 12.

Some Luxury rooms can accommodate 1 extra bed and Junior Suites up to 2 extra beds.

Please call 0845 2871 007 to discuss requirements and check availability.

Within the hotel there are many games to enjoy including: board games, croquet, an outdoor chess set and a trampoline.

Nearby activities include walking, mountain biking canoeing, golf and fishing.

Dogs Policy

Dogs stay free and they are welcomed with a nice doggy biscuit!  The grounds are wonderful for a morning dog walk with plenty of rabbits to chase and the hotel will happily provide a water bowl on request. They also offer dogs their own special menu, blankets and cushions, dog box; doggie walks map plus a vet on call and a grooming service who can come to tender for all your treasured ones needs!  Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in any public areas.

Excellent holiday break

Anon, stayed: July 2019

My husband and I had a lovely few days staying at Cringletie House Hotel. We could not fault it in any way.

My only suggestion would be a change in the menu each night, We stayed a couple of nights and it would have been nice to have had a change in the selection for each course on the second evening.

Girls weekend

MB, Kincardineshire, stayed: May 2019

Here for girls night! Had a lovely afternoon tea, followed by a great dinner. Breakfast in the morning was lovely , all cooked to order. Two of our party, though , had a bit of a wait, due ,I think, to having a large party in ahead of us!
I am a wheelchair user - there was a lift to get up the 3 steps at the entrance hall. Our room was accessible with beds that rise electronically, shower had a fixed seat which would be fine except the controls are too far away. Ideal if my husband was there but didn t feel I could ask friend to help me turn it on! Grab rails at toilet , sink , mirror at wheelchair level!
Nice touches in room - small decanter of whisky, recliner armchairs, slippers, dressing gowns, automatic door.
My only , small ,quibble was bed could have been higher. Mentioned this on leaving and was told bed risers were available. As we intend to come back for two nights, I was assured these would be available!
Staff were lovely - efficient, helpful and generally very accommodating.
We will be back! Have booked for next year!

Quiet Getaway

Paula, Tyne and Wear, stayed: March 2019

Lovely Victorian building. Staff very friendly and helpful, couldn't do enough for you. Greeted on arrival by Liz, who showed us to our room. Room was spacious as was the bathroom. Lovely views from room. Restaurant was nicely appointed and menu very good. Breakfast was extensive and afternoon tea was very nice too. Grounds were well maintained and there were many walks. Walled garden was very nice with possibly the oldest yew hedges in Scotland.
If you would like a nice quiet retreat this is the ideal place to go.
