A beautiful situation,
I love this area and have visited this hotel several times but this visit, I was disappointed with the menus and lack of local dishes using smoked salmon, lamb, etc. I also feel the menu prices per plate were very expensive. Disappointed also with breakfast , finding it hard to get runny eggs either fried or poached.
Restful stay. Calm, caring atmosphere.
Non-slip, shower mat was hidden in clothing cupboard and not found until second day! Perhaps it could be in the bathroom area.
Doubtful if value for money
Pity country hotels go on about potential upgrades and late departures. Neither are readily offered. Would stay again but only if a bargain price was available..
Mid Week break
Dunked House Hotel has the best setting in the area - set back from the road and village, it has beautiful gardens on the banks of the River Tay.
Reception was welcoming, but room upgrade included in the package was not offered.
Booking for dinner was not recorded and caused some delay in getting our table. Similar confusion at breakfast when again requested time slot had not been transferred from reception to the restaurant.
Food and drinks expensive.
Lovely hotel, details let them down.
We had a mixed experience at Dunkeld. The location and grounds are excellent, with lovely walks and beautiful surroundings. The hotel is very nice, the room comfortable and the staff pleasant and friendly. What let them down was the service and the food, and a not-great spa treatment.
Firstly, the service. Only two members of staff seemed genuine, and that was the woman who checked us in, and the bar staff who despite being left on his own many times, managed to still be friendly and approachable. I didn't catch his name but it's the shorter guy with the glasses and beard. Everyone else, even though they were polite and friendly enough, seemed to be putting on this facade of silver-service and came across as completely false and pretentious. It made us really uncomfortable, and we much preferred the genuine manner of the two aforementioned staff.
The food was underwhelming, though not bad as such. Very expensive for what it was, and a bit misleading. The first night, we booked for the restaurant but the menu had only one vegetarian option, as we were not given the vegetarian/vegan menu. We asked if we could move to the bar to eat, and after a bit of confusion we did. There, we were given the bar menu and the vegetarian menu but when my veggie partner went to order from it, were told you can only order from that menu in the restaurant. After picking something from the regular menu, I received what was described as a chicken quarter with fries, but what was actually a chicken leg with chunky chips. For 21. Service was pretty slow and after waiting for ages for a dessert menu, a distracted waitress who didn't seem to know what was going on took our order. Or should I say took one of the orders then I had to call her back to take mine as she was already walking checkout, when I queried the 60 discount for the meal and said it was stated on the voucher it would be 85 I was told that was only for the restaurant. Annoying.
Dinner in the restaurant the next evening was nice but again, overpriced. Breakfast was plentiful but would have been nice to have some veggie sausages etc, and little details like the orange juice being cheap from concentrate lets them down.
The spa treatment I got was an express facial which for 30 minutes at a whopping 60 should have been amazing. Unfortunately about 10 minutes of it was lovely but the remaining 20 were just the therapist running her hands through my long hair like a comb under the guise of a scalp massage which, as you can imagine, hurts and is not at all relaxing. Pool and sauna etc were nice enough, and everything looked clean.
Again, the hotel and grounds are lovely, but with everything so expensive and not really worth it, unfortunately I don't think we'll return.
Lovely Stay at Dunkeld House Hotel
Stayed for two days at this beautiful picturesque hotel, situated right on the River Tay.
I would recommend it for couples and older people to have a lovely relaxing break away.
Relaxing venue
We came to stay to relax and we certainly did and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and surroundings.
Nice hotel with good food and excellent location.
