Facilities at Eshott Hall

Eshott Hall is entirely unique; an elegant property offering accommodation to the discerning guest and a perfect setting for private house parties, weddings and executive conferences.

The Hall is one of Northumberland's most beautiful 17th century country houses and enjoys an idyllic setting on a 500 acre family owned estate; surrounded by tranquil rolling lawns and ancient woodland. Eshott Hall has natural grace, with discreet and understated charm; a chic blend of stylish contemporary décor with an historic ambiance.

Robert and Gina Parker bought Eshott Hall in January 2010 and immediately set about refurbishing the rooms, creating new bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, as well as designing the interiors to reflect a mixture of antique and contemporary style. All 11 bedrooms are now available to guests as well as the three self catering holiday properties within the grounds. Eshott Hall is also developing a name for its fine dining and many non-residents are already regular dinner guests. The Hall is proving a very popular venue for weddings and events.

Eshott's sister hotel, the luxury four red star Doxford Hall, at Chathill, a mere 15 minutes from Eshott have recently refurbished their Spa, and guests staying at Eshott have free access to their Spa facilities and discounted treatments. For more information please ask for more information.

History of the hotel

There is mention of a Hall at the Northumberland village of Eshott as far back as 1310, when Roger Mauduit was given a Royal License to fortify his home, which grew to an estate by 1328. The Crown confiscated the estate after a rebellion but restored it to the Mauduit family in 1359.

In 1415, there is reference to the 'Castle of Esshete' owned by a knight, Sir John Heron, but it is not until the turn of the 16th century that Eshott Hall as we recognise it now came into existence.

In the late 1960's the older central block of the Hall was demolished, leaving the north wing built in 1881 as well as the south wing. Eshott Hall fell into disuse but was revived in 1997 by Ho Sanderson, great grandson of Emerson Bainbridge, who developed the Hall into a venue for weddings, functions with some guest accommodation.

Very good but disappointing provision for food allergies/intolerances

Anon, stayed: January 2017

We had a lovely stay and the room, particularly the ensuite, was lovely. The food was delicious, but I was disappointed, having notified in advance, of a dairy intolerance, that the approach was just to tell me what I 'could have'. In the case of dessert, I couldn't have any of the desserts but was given sorbet and fruit salad. On the second night they stretched to adding a meringue. This is so predicable as the standard dairy-free dessert option. I had hoped that such a high quality restaurant would have had made an effort to produce something as delicious as the dairy desserts on the menu. I make many lovely desserts myself that aren't noticeably dairy-free and could be given to everybody. It's a shame the chef didn't make a bit more effort especially with advance notice.

November break

CB, Cleveland, stayed: November 2016

We had a lovely two night stay at Eshott Hall. Nice place, good location and great staff.  We booked because we had been given a voucher to use up, otherwise a bit out of our usual price range.  Nice to visit but would prefer a self catering personally.  No faults with the hotel or its staff, but found the dining room too dark to see what was on the plate, we had to move the candle to be able to see the food and then it was still quite dim.

Anniversary Treat

SR., East Yorkshire, stayed: September 2016

We booked Eshott Hall for our 30th Anniversary. Off Peak Luxury offered a really good package for our 3 night break and the booking process was very easy. We were delighted when we arrived, it was as beautiful as it looked on the photos. Our package said we would be upgraded to a Deluxe room and when we saw our room it was wonderful, in fact it was featured in the hotels photo book of weddings that had taken place there. The whole place just felt like top notch home from home, friendly and helpful service, nothing was too much trouble! The meals were amazing, including the afternoon tea which came as part of the package.  We will definitely be back at Eshott in the near future and will book the deal through Off Peak Luxury!

Lovely stay in Northumberland

MB, Leeds, stayed: September 2015

Staff friendly and helpful, room fantastic with lovely outlook. Very quiet and not much atmosphere on second night. Breakfast good but could offer more choice if self service e.g. yoghurt with fresh fruit. Evening meal good quality but over fussy and same menu both nights. Nice location would stay again.
