Beautiful stay, especially for special occasions

Sarah, Oxfordshire, stayed: January 2020

Found online on the off chance with OPL and really pleased I did, the booking was done with ease. I arranged this for my mum's 70th birthday surprise and was a wonderful experience. The staff were all friendly and helpful in trying to make every moment of the surprise go smoothly, from arrival, the spa, treatment, the court suite room, with dinner and breakfast. Was allowed some extra time in the spa the following morning, when I asked, because it wasn't busy. The spa was lovely and the treatments were an added bonus and thoroughly needed after all the stress arranging the surprises! The room was fantastic, with everything you could need. Was a nice surprise with a little kitchen area behind a cupboard door. The court suite rooms are separate from the main hotel, but ideal when using the spa. The house and main grounds were just a short walk from our room. We were shown around the rooms of the main house by a really friendly member of staff named John. He knew the history of the hotel and showed us the rooms downstairs and 2 of the bedrooms - wow! Although the bedrooms were really large and would be a gorgeous experience, we preferred the court suites as they were quite dark and not much natural light. I was slightly disappointed that the gesture of a little celebration plaque given during dinner was forgotten. I was told it was given for special occasions, so was quite pleased something extra would be done in addition to all my planned surprises. I had spoken to many people about it to be done. When I asked when it would be given, they said it was forgotten, as it should have been brought out when given dessert. Would have been nice to have a little something by the hotel as a gesture for her birthday, as I had mentioned why we were there. But there were plenty of surprises I had arranged from beginning to end of our stay, which were amazing when seeing my mum's reaction. The cafe sandwiches could have been better presented for the price, around 7 for a few crisps and one sandwich (just using normal sliced bread). Thought perhaps special bread and a salad would have been nice, but the food was still tasty. Other food brought out looked nice and was enjoyed. It was a lovely experience from beginning to end. Would definitely recommend OPL and the hotel. Many thanks for an enjoyable stay.

Lovely Historic Country Hotel and Spa

MJ, Surrey, stayed: January 2020

The house is stunning and has a genuinely fascinating history. Our room was possibly the largest I have ever slept in. The grounds are attractive but not particularly large - a few more paths would be useFul in winter. The spa was excellent and did not try to sell over priced products after treatment. The pool was very attractive.Dinner was excellent with a decent wine list. Nice touch when the manager introduced himself. Bar closed quite early but it was made clear drinks could be obtained later by ringing the bell.Unfortunately I had forgotten breakfast finished at 9.30am - entirely my fault but this does seem quite early in a luxury hotel. However the manager quickly arranged a continental for us when we appeared at 9.45.

Overall we really enjoyed our overnight stay - not cheap but worth it.

Relaxing birthday treat

Lisa T, Bedfordshire, stayed: November 2019

We stayed in the courtyard suite which was real value for money compared to the price of suites in the main house. The suite was large and right next to the spa. Being away from the main house made it more private. All staff were very friendly and professional. I didn't find the evening meal that good, the fish was very overdone. The breakfast was very good with salmon being on the help yourself buffet.

First class stay - a shame about the tea machine

IR, Clwyd, stayed: November 2019

Excellent hotel and pool, with friendly and good service, although obviously an expensive hotel.. Our only criticism would be the tea ad coffee making machine. Iit was difficult to work out how to use. Although it produced good coffee, the tea was not very nice (flavoured from the coffee made previously) and only enough materials for one cup of tea each, which was not enough for when we stayed in our stable room reading.
Otherwise, everything was excellent

Excellent Historic Hotel & Spa!

SW, Cheshire, stayed: October 2019

We paid extra for a "Royal Room" in the main house for the full National Trust Experience!. The Tapestry Room was Oak panelled with "Tapestry wall hangings" and large windows overlooking parkland. The coach house rooms looked Ok near the Spa. Romantic grounds to walk around.
The four reception rooms downstairs with open fires were luxurious and full of history. The evening meal was excellent and just as good as the Michelin star Manoir. We spent more than the 53 meal allowance (an extra 28) and then wine and coffee, however, it was excellent food e.g Venison, Scallops, Steak. "Off peak luxury need to advise if service is included", as we did not mind paying 12.5% service on the extras , but not the entire bill (including 53 paid in advance again). This was on the bill in the evening, but was removed the following morning. The service and staff were excellent and Spa enjoyable. Expensive, but Excellent!
