Lounges

Oak Room

To the right of Reception is the lovely Oak Room, which as its name denotes is panelled in fine oak and is made all the cosier by the addition of a log-burning fire.  Towards the rear, is the all-important licensed bar, just waiting for your order.

The Grand Lounge

A capacious room; having large windows affording a light and airy feel, and providing stunning views across the lawns to the river beyond. Although quite sizeable, little enclaves and cosy corners abound in this room, providing ample opportunity to sit with friends or family, to snuggle up with a good book; play board games or just simply to soak up the tranquil atmosphere.

Delightful objects d'art and paintings lovingly adorn the whole area, along with bowls of fresh fruit and displays of freshly cut flowers, culminating in a very cosy, homely ambience in which to totally switch off and relax.

Delectable light lunches from Chef's selection can be enjoyed here, and each afternoon, we'll tempt you with our mouth-watering selection of Welsh Teas with freshly created sandwiches, Welsh cakes; scones dripping with cream and homemade preserves, and slices of heavenly chocolate cake, but when the sun comes out, guests often prefer to enjoy their tea served outside on the patio, underneath the spreading chestnut tree!

The Orangery

Naturally flowing on from the Grand Lounge, French doors deliver you into our light and airy Orangery; a more recent addition to the old house where delicious selections of Welsh breakfasts are served each morning.

Exceptional Staff

CP, Isle of Anglesey, stayed: October 2019

Great place tucked away in Mid Wales - We were cycling from hotel and roads were quiet with beautiful scenery.
The hotel has unique style and decor and is in no way sterile or corperate. Staff were exceptionally good, pleasant and plentiful. Food was very good standard, one of our two evening meals with fantastic. The exception was the cold and barely cooked (if at all) black pudding, served with breakfast one day. We had a suite which was generous and very comfortable with large ensuite, but the windows all overlooked a rear yard and kitchen entrance so we were exposed to early morning arrivals and deliveries (our visit was during warm weather and we did have windows open). This may not be a issue is the winter when its dark early and cool enough to keep windows closed but I would recommend taking a room with a garden view rather than a suite with an unattractive view.

I have ticked to say we would not stay again but this is because we try different places but we would have no real issues if invited with others or for a family gaTHERING.

amazing find in a lovely location

NW, Hampshire, stayed: October 2019

My wife and I recently visited the Lake Country House hotel for our Wedding Anniversary. From the the second we walked through the door to the time we left, staff were always really helpful and polite. We were fortunate enough to have one of the hotels luxury suites, the rooms were very spacious, comfortable beds, nice bathroom with all the usual amenities. The restuarant was amazing, some of the best food we've ever had so compliments to the chef, again, all the restaurant staff we're great. We made use of the spa facilities and available treatments, all worth every penny we spent, haven't felt that relaxed in a long time! The hotel is sat in some lovely grounds, we enjoyed a long walk all along the river to the village and back. All in, we would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Susan, West Sussex, stayed: September 2019

Everything is perfect at this hotel from the fabulous staff, rooms and restaurant. The grounds are well maintained and the views are stunning. Lovely for a walk along the river. Spa is new only used the pool. Gym small. Trying to find an excuse to go back again. Wonderful place for a relaxing break. Tea and coffee very good and afternoon tea is a must.

CB, Bedfordshire, stayed: September 2019

Generally we enjoyed our 2 night stay at Lake Country House with its quirky buildings and extensive grounds. I was a little disappointed with the lack of olives/nuts etc to have with evening drinks and the red wine lists was not very exciting.
Otherwise a very enjoyable stay.

Perfect escape in beautiful mid-Wales

EG, West Glamorgan, stayed: September 2019

I stayed with my mother on a 3 night break. Our aim was to get away from it all and this was the perfect place. A beautiful location, in rolling countryside.
Friendly, attentive staff, but not overly so. There is a happy atmosphere here.
We had a very comfortable, spacious suite in the lodge and also enjoyed the relaxing lounges in the main house, which has the feel of a lovely, country-house family home. The spa was spotless with very good facilities and we enjoyed our treatments. The stair-lift to access the upper level of the spa is a helpful and considerate touch.
And the food - from breakfast, to afternoon tea and dinner, was delicious.
For us, it was a perfect escape.

Relaxing mid Wales break

JC, Essex, stayed: September 2019

On arrival we were moved from the lodge to the main house. Just as well as the two nights we stayed it rained heavily. Umbrellas are provided by the door and the lodge is just a stones throw from the main house. Our room was clean and the decoration almost spotless. I would recommend that housekeeping attend to blown light bulbs, in the room and bathroom and broken fans in the bathroom. Dinner was good, but we felt a little rushed and had to delay going into dinner/dessert. On the second night the dining room door was closed by 9.30 and the diners had been fed! Breakfast was very good. We thought that the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. We would gladly return and recommend to others.

Weekend Package

Stephen, Staffordshire, stayed: August 2019

We booked a weekend package including breakfast, dinner as the rate was better than booking directly. We had a good weekend and would consider returning. The hotel is not well signed from the lane - there are small slate name plates on the posts. Easy to drive past. The location is pretty isolated but not rugged and ideal for a quiet break. There are walks by the river both in and out of the grounds, and a small lake. Activities include golf, a spa where my wife was very pleased with her reflexology (I used the pool, steam room and hot tub), a putting green, tennis court and croquet lawn. Plenty to keep you busy for a long weekend. There is a wonderful comfortable lounge to sit in the daytime or before/after dinner. The dinner menu GBP45pp is small but everything was beautifully prepared and presented. No fault there and the wine list was extensive and should cater for all tastes and budgets. The cooked breakfast was very good but the continental buffet could be improved. The orange juice was not fresh which I would expect at these prices, the fruit salad a little tired, jams could be better quality etc.
We stayed in a junior suite in the main house. The room was fine and had nice views over the garden. A few problems with the shower which we were assured will be fixed but nothing serious. There was no in-room safe or fridge but water, tea/coffee,biscuits and fruit were provided. There is a nearby annex (2 minutes walk) with more rooms which looked fine but lack the character of the main building. All in all we had a good relaxing weekend. Quite expensive but what we needed.

Short Break

DH, Devon, stayed: July 2019

Food was very good with plenty of variety. The afternoon tea was beautifully presented. Lovely big swimming pool and spa.
Well kept grounds with a riverside walk. Although a bit out of the way, there were places to see not too far away. There was even a railway station in the village and a bus service. All in all, a good place for a relaxing short break.
