Facilities at Lifehouse Spa & Hotel

The Lifehouse Hotel enjoys one of the finest spa facilities in the East of England. Located in Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex, an hour and twenty minutes by train from London and a ten minute drive from the pretty beach town of Frinton-on-sea.

The design of Lifehouse Spa & Hotel is modern, simple and restrained. The buildings form a series of courtyards creating outside ‘rooms’ linking the interior to the less formal existing gardens.

Home truths

  • The design and decor of the hotel is very modern and minimalist. We liked it though we acknowledge it might not be to everyone's taste.
  • The car park is set a 100 yards or so from the actual entrance to the hotel though you can drop off luggage at the front door.
  • We found the flip flops for the spa a little confusing, but just ask the spa team and they will show you. It might have just been us!

Fabulous break

Annie S, Cheshire, stayed: November 2018

Stayed here with my cousin and her daughter, we were a group of 3 women aged mid 40s to late 60s. There was something for all of us - the traithlon athlete, the yoga enthusiast and the I-need-a break Grandma. I would say, try to go as a party of 2 as the single supplement is, necessarily, quite steep. Check in was not a lovely experience. Our meal times and activities and treatment times were incorrect and incomplete. The non-smiling desk clerk could not help us and we had to make separate trips to the restaurant and the spa desks to correct our itineraries. However these staff members were helpful and efficient. The premises are lovely, the facilities are gorgeous and the restaurant was excellent except for Sunday monring when there must have been an issue in the kitchen. The poached egg and salmon option took about 25 minutes to be served, and the eggs were hard, and complete with bits of shell. Everything else in the restaurant had been very good and hopefully this was just a one-off aberration. We attended several exercise classes - be sure to check if your plan includes these or if they are at an extra cost. We thought they were included but apparently not. There should be a way to make that more clear to guests. Even so, the prices were not steep and the tuition was mostly first rate. The rooms were nicely appointed and spacious. We are looking forward to returning.

Not very special

Anon, stayed: October 2018

Arrived 15 minutes early and we were told our room was not ready so to go away and come back when we got a phone call. We were not told we could wait in the bar or anything. Well at 4.30 pm we were still waiting for a phone call so decided to return to the hotel. We explained what had happened and the new receptionist (the one who told us she would call us was no longer there) gave an insincere apology then asked her colleague to help her get our bags. Both my friend and I felt she had gone to have a little chat about us. We got to our room and having been told we were being upgraded were quite underwhelmed by the room. I tried to call the receptionist but no reply. So I walked back to find both receptionists chatting. I said our room does not have the Prosecco or chocolates in it and is it an upgrade? The receptionist again gave one of her insincere apologies but if I wasn t there to enjoy myself I would have had a full on argument with her. She seemed to be spoiling for one . Definitely a bad atmosphere at that place. Check out we didn t get a smile or a hope you enjoyed your stay.

First Wedding anniversary

Adam, Surrey, stayed: October 2018

We stayed on Friday night as it was our first wedding anniversary and our first date was at the lifehouse. We had a long drive from London and so we asked on arrival if we could move dinner by 30mins. We were told this was not possible however the staff person next to us was doing exactly this for another couple. I ordered champagne to the room, this was lovely as was the room. The dinner was ok, we were surprised that in our stay we were not given any acknowledgment of our anniversary despite mentioning this when booking. Breakfast was tasty however a lot of the food and drinks had not been topped up. We love the spa as we have used it before but didn't expect to have to negotiate our way in via the spa staff. Overall a pleasant stay but not as good as previous visits.

Thank you gift

ME, Hertfordshire, stayed: July 2018

We had a lovely relaxing time at the spa. As we arrived on the Monday and were staying overnight, we would have liked to have been able to get into our room before 3.00. The meals we had were delicious. However our deal gave us a free bottle of wine for dinner but on checkout we would have been charged for it had I not reminded them of this. Such oversights should not occur in a quality spa such as the lifehouse. The therapists who gave us our treatments were superb. Had there been some special offers available on the products, we would have purchased more! The grounds and the gardens are a total joy.Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Chillaxing stay

HM, South Yorkshire, stayed: July 2018

Having had a very stressful year it was time for me and my daughter in law to have some chill time to celebrate her birthday and to have some girl time before the boys went away on their holiday! We would prefer to rate every thing as very good and the spa treatments as excellent we have never been more relaxed than we were after them. The restaurant staff were welcoming and very pleasant at evening meal and breakfast. The grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed a pleasant walk around the ponds. It was just what we needed and we hope to return soon
