History of the hotel

From the potential site of the first Welsh parliament in 560AD to being lost in a card game, Llangoed Hall possesses a history as long as it is fascinating.

Llangoed Hall was believed to have been the legendary White Palace, home of the first Welsh parliament. A mansion existed from 1632. It was first in the possession of the MacNamara family having been won in a card game and it stayed with them for two generations until 1847. In 1912 Clough Williams Ellis re-designed the mansion as a country house. Sir Bernard Ashley bought Llangoed Hall in 1987 and opened it as a hotel in 1990.

Llangoed was Clough Williams Ellis first major commission and predates Portmeirion, his renowned Italianate village in North Wales, by over a decade

Lovely hotel.
Have been here 3 times but the food in the restaurant is not as good as it used to be.
No a la carte menu in the restaurant, only a very limited table d hote.
Used to be lots of flowers around the house and restaurant. None at all in the restaurant, which makes it look rather cold.
Rooms are lovely and spacious and beds very comfortable .The staff are very helpful and friendly.

Very nice stay. Lovely room, toiletries and bed. Staff very nice. Decor and grounds top notch.

Thought 6 for a bottle of water and 10 for a cafeti re of coffee was daylight robbery. Floor lamp in room wasn t working so room was dark. Restaurant was very dark. Our booking included dinner but bill that we were asked to sign included it s cost, this just prompts awkward discussion. Breakfast took forever, think our order was forgotten.

Lovely place

Anon, stayed: August 2019

Lovely place in a lovely setting , delightful and helpful staff, rooms spacious and tasteful and food mostly excellent. Only suggestions for future might be to make your vegetarian / vegans options/ possibilities more apparent ( and cooked breakfast wasnt as beautifully presented as other meals) . Some reading lights would be handy in the live drawing rooms for those who want to read after dinner

Apalling service in a beatiful location

Michael, hants, stayed: August 2019

We stayed, with friends, for three nights. It was a big mistake - one night might have been OK, but the very restricted dinner menu was unchanged for the entirety of our stay.
As we had principally chosen Llangoed for its offer of gourmet food - it was bitterly disappointing.
The trappings of gourmet food service were in place but the food itself was miserly portions that fell far short of gourmet. Of eleven requests for additional vegetables / scoops of sorbet - only three were executed. No explanation or apology for this was given.
The breakfast buffet was limited and unappealing while the breakfast cooked food followed the dinner trend - poorly cooked and somewhat limited in what was on offer.
Complaintswere handled neutrally with no apologies or follow up.
Dietary requirements were largely ignored.
As a gluten-free vegan I was offered an amuse bouche they claimed was apple based which I ate - to my peril. Examination of an uneaten ball showed it was pulled meat in a wheat-laden parcel. I suffered a severe gluten reaction. Complaint about this was handled in the same neutral fashion and with no explanation or apologies.
DO NOT STAY HERE!

Fabulous stay

Anon, stayed: July 2019

The hotel is gorgeous, along with the grounds. The afternoon tea was delicious. It would have been nice to offer to bring more of anything. There was enough for 1 item per person and of course everyone has their favourite. The welsh cakes were devine. Overall a wonderful stay. I would definitely visit and stay again.
