History of the hotel

From the potential site of the first Welsh parliament in 560AD to being lost in a card game, Llangoed Hall possesses a history as long as it is fascinating.

Llangoed Hall was believed to have been the legendary White Palace, home of the first Welsh parliament. A mansion existed from 1632. It was first in the possession of the MacNamara family having been won in a card game and it stayed with them for two generations until 1847. In 1912 Clough Williams Ellis re-designed the mansion as a country house. Sir Bernard Ashley bought Llangoed Hall in 1987 and opened it as a hotel in 1990.

Llangoed was Clough Williams Ellis first major commission and predates Portmeirion, his renowned Italianate village in North Wales, by over a decade

Wonderful anniversary treat

AP, Gwent, stayed: September 2018

We booked a night at Llangoed Hall for our 15th anniversary celebration. It certainly lived up to our expectations. Scrap exceeded them! We booked an afternoon cream tea for our arrival which was superb, very attentive staff serving us too. It was just lovely.

Our room was beautiful with a 4 poster bed and gorgeous views.

We had the 6 course tasting menu for dinner which was divine. Each mouthful was utterly delicious.

The gardens and grounds are pretty and lovely to walk around including the maze, the veg garden with chickens and ducks plus a nice walk down to the river too.

Cooked Welsh Breakfast was fabulous and left us set up for the day.

The staff could not have been more attentive and helpful. The whole experience really was amazing and it was a fabulous place for us to enjoy our anniversary. We even had a little anniversary card waiting for us in our room. Now that little touch really sets this place apart.

Loved it all!

Disappointed

JT, stayed: August 2018

Unfortunately the dining experience does not meet expectations or reflects the price bracket for our stay.
Pros: nice room with lovely countryside views. Very impressive building and pleasant walks around grounds.
Cons: service during breakfast was dismal, surprisingly disorganised with breakfast items missing.
Dinner service was good however standard of meal was not up to much. You can get far nicer meals elsewhere for this price. No wine pairing. Antique bedside table was not stable and everything on it ended up on the floor during the night. Morning paper did not arrive until approximately 9.00, once we d already left the room.
No real apologies or attempt from the lady during checkout to address our dissatisfaction. I think they do so many weddings that they ve forgotten how to give a high quality every day Hotel experience .
Unfortunately the meal and experience did not seduce us to want to go back.
