Very disappointing stay for our wedding anniversary

Maureen M, D&G, stayed: May 2025

Room access was via a staircase then an additional spiral staircase which was unsafe. No other room was available for that night so we had to ring for an escort each time we wanted out of the room to enable us to have the use of a service lift.
The following day around 12 mid day we were moved to a standard room 80 meters from the main building.
The menu was unchanged and very limited for the duration of our stay.
We were assured we could join the tour of the castle as it would not be a problem using the lift with an escort. However we were taken by lift up to the roof area where we waited while the rest of the party were shown the lower floors.
As we were gifted an afternoon tea we had this on the 2nd last day then checked out .
We felt some recompense was in order and took the matter up with the manager who was unsympathetic and said we should take the matter to OPL

More than disappointing.

Jean, Cheshire, stayed: May 2025

Cost us 300 for one night with breakfast & dinner, food was average.
Room with no windows only a sky light view of the sky, no hot water apparently due to everyone using it at the same time. Bathroom ceiling extractor fan very noisy.
There is no outside sitting area at all at the hotel.

Not impressed

David S, Derbyshire, stayed: September 2020

There was a problem with the kitchen fans which meant the dining area was full of smoke. In fact on the second night the smoke alarms went off.
We did not get our free glass of pre dinner champagne on the first night and on the second night the waitress got us mixed up with another room and sat us at the wrong table, against protocol, set up for the relaxed dining menu rather than the A la Carte which we had paid for (and pre booked during the day). The other couple came in after us at dinner, were served first with the complimentary soup appetiser and it wasn t until they brought out our starters that the mistake was realised. Even then there was little apology from the Maitre de and we had to ask again for the wine list.
The bill was miscalculated on departure as the 20% off wine by the bottle at dinner was not applied and we had been charged for an afternoon tea which we had not had (being at Vindolanda and Hadrian s wall at the time).
The bill was recalculated on contesting but I think the compulsory service added for dinner was a bit much considering the service we received.
Breakfast was taken in the room on both days and there was a fairly good choice but on the second day we had to ring down to reception as there was no milk or sugar for the tea and coffee.
I understand there are difficulties and stresses due to Covid but this was supposed to be 5 star service

Langley Castle Review

Philip F, Cheshire, stayed: September 2020

The room was a good size to match the bed which was excellent, great nights sleep, the bathroom was a bit disappointing due to cracked sink, not to keen on a shower curtain, screen would have been preferable as water from shower ended up on the floor. Felt like I was showering in a disability shower room ( I think it was). Some staff were friendly and obliging others were at the other end of the scale.
Had a pleasant stay over all.

Peacock started squawking at 4.15 am.
Food should be hot and freshly cooked, not reheated, even the ice cream didn t melt on the bread & butter pudding.
Having said that we did not want an upstairs room because of health, we then had to walk up to the castle and upstairs for pre dinner drinks.

We say...

Thank you for your review.

Although, you were allocated a Castle View Suite on the Ground Floor with view of the Castle and Grounds, with Super King bed and separate sitting room, this was at your request.

Unfortunately, with any castles or hotels there will be some steps to navigate within the premises.

We have passed your review onto the hotel.

Regards,

Offpeakluxury

A Castle Stay

Carolyn, Lancashire, stayed: June 2022

What a treat, we stayed at Castle View which gave a fabulous view of the castle. The rooms were spacious and the bed comfortable. The toiletries were an added bonus to use in the lovely bathroom.
We were greeted by the wandering peacock s and Mr displayed his plumage regularly. We enjoyed exploring the grounds of Langley Castle through the woods. Perhaps the menu could offer a couple of meat free options to accommodate non meat eaters. The food was nicely prepared and presented.
The tour of the castle was indeed an added bonus. The young lady who showed us around was very knowledgeable and enjoyed sharing her anecdotes. It certainly was obvious that everyone who worked at Langley Castle were proud to be part of the team.

Nice stay but room disappointing

Nathan H, Yorkshire, stayed: July 2022

The grounds were stunning and so the castle. But we stayed in the castle veiw room. The room was very tired the ensuite was very poor with the vanity top damaged. With a crack across it.the mastic on the back had peeled.we complained but they said they would see to it.after we left . We paid nearly 200 a night just to stay in the room. Really not worth it. Stayed in better bed and breakfast

Four night stay for two

KP Somerset, stayed: June 2022

The soft furnishing in the bedroom was worn, needed updating.
The menu for evening meals was rather limited and the same every evening. Very poor for vegetarians with only one choice which was the same for four evenings.
