Parking Facilities
The George is situated in the centre of the citadel area of this medieval town and unfortunately there is no car park on site. There is parking in the High Street yet limited to an hour. We suggest dropping luggage off at our main entrance – note that there is a double yellow line outside the front door and in front of that, a commercial loading bay, so we advise not to leave your vehicle unattended at any time to avoid being given a ticket by Rye's traffic warden, which has been known to happen from time to time.
Then go to park in the Cattle Market car park (off Rope Walk) which is a 3-minute walk from the hotel and is charged at £2.00 for 24 hours. For periods longer than 24 hours, please buy the relevant number of tickets at once and display all in the windscreen for the duration of the stay. Please note that this car park is unavailable overnight on Wednesday until 5pm on Thursdays as the weekly market takes place – but other public car parks in the town still operate.

History of the hotel
Prominently positioned on the cobbled high street of the medieval town of Rye, East Sussex, The George in Rye is one of the most captivating hideaways on England's south coast.
Lovingly renovated, this Grade II listed bolt-hole offers a welcoming retreat for design lovers, foodies and the creatively inclined.
The building dates from 1575 and has an enviable heritage, with an original Georgian ballroom and Elizabethan galley beams, amongst other quirks. Always a meeting point, The George has entertained three King Georges, Wellington, and the Mayor of London.
More recently, these historic bones have been brought to life through eclectic and contemporary design, using an assortment of antique and modern furniture, materials and art. The result is a comfortable blend of old and new, creating an atmosphere that is relaxed, informal and individual.
Rye itself is unlike anywhere else in England. A medieval town locked in time and with a fascinating history, Rye offers an idyllic escape for relaxation or romance, just four miles from the rejuvenating sea air and white beach of Camber Sands.
Dogs Policy
There are five dog friendly rooms in the Classic or Luxury categories, Please contact us and we will check availability for you. Dogs are charged at £50 per dog per night.
Dogs are allowed in the Snug area in The Grill.

Ideal for shorter stays, Cosy rooms rooms are individually furnished and each has its own charm and character. Compact and comfortable, Cosy rooms are perfectly proportioned for one and cosy for two. These rooms have their period features enhanced by hand-finished touches.
