The grounds

Guyers House Hotel & Restaurant sits amidst a classic English garden designed and developed over the past 22 years by Guy and Clare Hungerford. It is a garden of contrasts but restful and easy on the mind.

It was planted to complement the different aspects of Guyers House and particularly to  take advantage of the  attractive ancient stone walls that occupy the grounds.  Thus  the seventeenth century front faces long lavender edged yew walks with secluded enclosures and gazebos leading to an orchard and a pond and a line of shrub roses, whereas the garden faced by the Georgian facade of the house has an  open, sweeping, airy freedom.

Lovely settings and good value

Stacey R, Oxfordshire, stayed: March 2019

I bought the offer of afternoon tea, three course dinner and stay at this hotel. Staff were fantastic and the settings were beautiful.
The only aspect I didnt like however was just not my cuppa tea- the dinner was supposed to be by 'candlelight' so I envisaged a nice romantic atmosphere however it was in a small room with bright lights.
staff were however very attentive however I felt uncomfortable throughout. The bar I felt lacked atmosphere and we ended up going back to our room by 8.30 after our meal rather than staying in the bar for another drink. The lighting in there was also very bright with no music or no atmosphere I just felt very watched.

Lovely Peaceful Stay

MF, Oxfordshire, stayed: March 2019

Lovely location and building. Stayed for two night mini break. Our room was spacious and clean, although a little tired. The evening meals were lovely, good wine list and we also enjoyed the breakfast. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff who were all very pleased to help.
The location is great with plenty to do near by. Bath is only a 20 minute drive from the hotel.

Not as luxurious as expected!

Anon, stayed: March 2019

Whilst I appreciate that our weekend break was booked at an off-peak cheaper rate, I feel that our room hardly met luxury standard. Basic amenities, and even more basic en-suite bathroom. Our understanding was on arrival our room would be upgraded (if available). Obviously not available.

Afternoon tea on arrival was rather disappointing - basic sandwich filling on some of the biggest sandwiches I have ever been served for afternoon tea and a poor selection of cakes which were not the freshest. However, the scones, cream and jam were delicious and plentiful.

Poor selection of food on the fine dining menu - mostly served on cold plates. Cooked breakfast not great either. Only ordered a fried egg once and chose scrambled for the next two days as my only experience of a fried egg was an undercooked one.

Overall, our experience at this hotel was only OK, our disappointment here was that we expected better.

If we book a luxury break with offpeakluxury again, we would not chose this hotel.

Excellent birthday weekend away

Andrew W, Hampshire, stayed: March 2019

Stayed here for 2 nights on a DB&B short break basis as a birthday weekend away with my wife. The hotel was excellent and great value for money. Staff were welcoming, pleasant and helpful everywhere. The restaurant was really good at both breakfast and dinner, good choice, freshly cooked and well presented. Location between Bath and Chippenham is great for visiting the lovely National Trust village of Lacock as well as giving easy access into Bath itself. Hope to return!

Country retreat

Alison, Avon, stayed: February 2019

Guyers House provided a relaxing getaway to celebrate a special birthday. The hotel and room were very cosy, well decorated and provided a quiet, charming setting. The champagne canapes before dinner added a special touch served in a beautiful sitting room. The evening meal was delicious, as was breakfast. We wandered around the gardens, which were well kept and full of beautiful snowdrops. Overall a lovely, relaxing break. Thank you.

Ok but

GF, Devon, stayed: February 2019

Very nice hotel with a warm welcome. However the menu was the same for two nights and only changed on the Sunday with roast replacing more al a carte items. Also be aware the service charge added to your bill for meals and drinks

Fantastic short break with exceptional food.

Paul V, Berkshire, stayed: February 2019

I would throughly recommend this hotel. We stayed for a weekend in Feb-19 and only have positive things to say about our stay. The staff are very friendly, the room we stayed in was lovely (it s an old building so don't expect everything to be pristine.). The food was truly exceptional. The best food I have ever had at any hotel to date. I could not compliment the chef and his team enough. You will not be disappointed.
