Walking Guides

A walk from the pub is one of life's simple pleasures—enjoying a scenic stroll before or after a hearty meal and a good pint. We have created three nearby walking routes with the perfect starting or finishing point...the pub!

Swanwick Lakes
1.5 miles: Fairly Easy | 1 hour

Hamble Estuary & Holly Hill Woodland Park
4 miles: Easy | 2 hours

River Hamble Country Walk
5 miles: Moderate | 2-3 hours

The banks of the estuary house many small inlets and approximately half a mile along the footpath the view opens up right down to the Hamble's mouth with Southampton Water.

The area around Bursledon Brickworks and Swanwick has become particularly popular with visitors, because the river and its landmarks are where many of the scenes for the former television series 'Howards Way' were filmed.

Why not take time to see places like the Bursledon Brickworks Industrial Museum? Popular sights and activities in the surrounding area include Southampton Cruise Terminal, QE2 Activity Centre. Manor Farm and Country Park. The Forest of Bere. Cineworld Whiteley. Rock Up Whiteley. Ninja Warrior UK, Solent Breezes beach, Gleneagle Equestrian centre, Tapnesll farm and Swanwick Lakes

Once working clay pits, Swanwick Lakes now nestle in peaceful 36 hectare wooded landscape. There are over 2 miles of paths around the lakes and woods, with over 1 mile of surfaced marked trails around this Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust reserve. It's home to many uncommon kinds of wildlife such as great crested newts, nightingales and mining bees – and there's a range of family-friendly events on throughout the year.
