Food poor
Received a warm welcome but the food and drink prices let it down. I had the steak and it was that tough you couldn t chew it(was taken off the bill) breakfast was just ok we asked for 2 poached egg on toast not expecting to have 1 egg on half a round. We ate at the white rabbit the second night and 100% better much more choice lovely ambience and a large wine wasn t over 13 it was 8.
Stay there but eat else and srink elsewhere
Allocated wrong room. Food average.
Paid for a suite given a room instead. Room clean and quiet. Food average had steak pie. Starters brie wedges and pate. Only us and a group in restaurant. Felt overpriced break. Refund for difference between suite and room allocated given after complained to Country Hotel Breaks. Would not return to this hotel.
This hotel is saved by very friendly and helpful staff and its cleanliness.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel and our room were clean. This hotel was tired looking. Breakfast was very good but we had one excellent evening meal and one that was not as good. It would have been better if the heating in our bedroom had been turned on wel before our arrival. The setting for hot water in the shower was very sensitive. As a result we had a cold shower on our first morning, not good for a February morning.
The Mortimer Arms.
We were met by a charming young lady who made us very welcome. She showed us to our pleasant clean double room. We later spent some time in the bar, really nice cider. The restaurant served great food and plenty of it.
The next day we spent in The New Forest and on our return our table was ready and again the food was delicious as was the Rose' wine, free. All things at the Hotel are clean and tidy and the staff very friendly.
Very Tired
Surprised that The Mortimer Arms is in the Country Hotel Breaks List. One requisite of a Hotel should be a lounge area where you can sit and relax, especially after a meal, there is no lounge here.
The whole building is in need of a complete freshen up.
The best thing about The Mortimer Arms is the staff, they are amazing, so friendly and obliging nothing was to much trouble, really lovely people.
Not a hotel
An old country pub (c1900) which is in the course of being renovated. (Painter working all the time we were there) There is no lounge or easy chairs to sit and relax after a meal. There is only a bar area and dining room. There was a broken window in the bar which boarded up. Looked like it had been like it for some time. The bedroom was very basic, although the 5ft bed was comfortable. The double wardrobe contained an ironing board and a tall fan which had to be removed and stored in the room before we could use the wardrobe. The bathroom was very poor with a piece of cloth hanging in the window as a curtain. There was no shelf or cabinet to put any toiletries. The shower was no working properly. Mr Brother in law and his wife stayed in the pub at the same time. They paid 377 but we paid 512 for basically the same accommodation!!!!!!!! I did take this up with the staff but was told to take it up with you! so what will you be doing about it? To include this Pub in the country hotels list is not right. It definitely is not a hotel but a vey poor to average pub. In saying all of this the Staff was very good.
